Welp I think I can close the year out with a ‘few’ items that I actually have knitted within the last 12-13 months.

It appears since last December 2010 I’ve been on a 6 month cycle of knitting items and just failed to post about them.

So let me give you some photos and some words to record them in knitting history and proof that I still do it.

JUST ENOUGH POLAR

Pattern:Just Enough Cowl
Yarn: Malabrigo Chunky in Polar Morn, 1 skein
Needle: Think I used a US10 or 11…so long ago I cant remember!
Timeframe: December 2010 over a couple days
Summary: Knitted this for a quick & easy project to shake the stress of the 2010 December month - Disney World, Marathon, Holidays, Move…..#whew
Perfect solution for the desire of a comfort knit!
Wanted it to match my Malabrigo Polar Morn beret knitted in 2009 to have a matching set.

BONE CRUSHER

Pattern: Boneyard Shawl
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca Tonal, 4 skeins in #6321 - Always wanted to knit with this yarn…didn’t like the rabbit hair though.
Needle: US8 on 40” circular
Timeframe: June-July – I wanted something to cover my arms in the church’s AC!
Summary: During this project I declared: “Crushing My Knitting Blues Away!!”
Bumpy start since I was on a knitting hiatus, but it was great practice on my M1L M1R again and of course the good ole fashion K,P! This is my 1st project since I tied the knot :)

HIS CHRIStmas HAT

Pattern:Hurricane Hat
Yarn: Noro Kogarashi – Had to get my 1st love in!! Hadn’t tried this line yet. Colorway #21. Used up ¾ of a hank
Needle: US5 magic looped
Timeframe: December 2011
Summary: My husband Chris’ 1st knitted item by me. He is super excited.
I wouldn’t knit for him until after we were married :) #newlyweds #8months #overdue
Because of the natural texture of the yarn (including color/specks) it really wasn’t necessary to do the pattern as you can barely see it…but it added character. Plan to make matching fingerless gloves for him.

Yes I am still alive and BLESSED! Thought I would share the most recent, biggiest and most exciting news in my life,since my last post last year, to those who still come by to see if the blog dust has been wiped off ;op.

How they met:
‘Chris and I met nine months ago on a rainy Friday night in August, 2010, at our church singles bowling event,’ Stacey said. ‘We were on the same bowling team.

We really did not take any special note of one another until the end of the evening, when I mentioned needing to get up early to go running. Chris immediately piped up and said he was a runner too and wanted to meet up with me.

We quickly began getting to know each other during our predawn runs each week, and he kept asking me out until one day I decided to give him, and love, a try. We started courting one another within a month.’

The moment they realized they wanted to be a couple for life:
‘There really isn’t an exact moment we can pinpoint that we decided to be together for a lifetime. The more we learned about each other the more we realized we were made for each other.

Soon after we ran our first race together back in October 2010, a half marathon (13.1 miles), and went on a trip to visit my family, we were certain that we had won each other's hearts!

Chris describes our relationship best. He says we are “a match made in heaven reunited on earth.”

The Proposal:
‘When we both decided to enter into a courtship, with the specific intent to be married, we discussed it many times and we prayed continuously that we were making the right decision.

During these discussions we not only talked about how marriage would be for us, but what kind of wedding we would like to have, and before we knew it we were planning a wedding … without a formal proposal.

It was all so natural we just flowed right into it! I always joke that Chris got off easy!’

The Wedding:
‘When selecting our wedding date, we really took a look at the dates and the significance of them. We wanted it to be meaningful.

We selected the 1st of the month because the number one means GODhead, unity and undivided. We both love the month of April since both of our birthdays are in this month and our favorite season is spring. Yes, April 1st, April Fools Day!

This meant we would have just a little over a month to plan the wedding! We thought, 'How appropriate to celebrate our wedding on April Fool's Day, since no one would believe that we got married so quickly.' It fit us perfectly!

The week leading up to the wedding was rainy and we were concerned the actual day would be gloomy, but that afternoon the sun came out and it was simply beautiful.

The trees and flowers were blooming and it was the perfect cool spring temperature.

We were surprised and delighted to see how many couples were getting married on April Fools Day at the courthouse, and as each couple came out there was a wave of cheers that gave an element of fun and excitement.

We selected royal purple as our accent color for the wedding. I had a vintage look in a unique ivory dress, birdcage veil and royal purple shoes to add flare.

We had a small wedding cake celebration afterwards that gave us an opportunity to exchange our intimate and personal vows with each other and express our love in front of our close family and friends. Chris’ mother made the wedding cake which added a special touch to the day.

Some of our guests were oblivious to the ‘special announcement’ we were about to make, which added to the April Fools Day surprise.

Guests had the option to complete a “Love Note” sharing any wedding sentiments or marriage advice to us. This was a unique twist and expansion on the guestbook, as the ribboned cards were later slipped into the extra pages to be remembered.

It was just what we wanted for our wedding day. To be effortless, meaningful and filled with joy!’

The Honeymoon:
‘We took a couple of mini weekend getaways in our wedding month, all of which were centered around the mountains. We visited Biltmore Estates during the Festival of Flowers and got some quality quiet time at a private mountain home. It was a wonderful way of enjoying our wedding bliss!’

Their Plans:
‘Our personal backgrounds made us realize why we were brought together. We know that through a ministry in GOD, we are to help others overcome the obstacles we have been through. We compliment each other in that Chris is a visionary and I am an organizer.

As we plan to work together in ministry, we also look forward to starting a family soon.’

Advice to Others:
‘Make your wedding your own personal statement, and know it is not based on man’s approval but GOD’s approval.

We highly recommend 50 kisses a day (Seriously, it works.) And to always keep GODas your first love, coming together in prayer daily.’

Hey Now!
Still not much knitting over here. Maybe tonight during a Redbox movie since it has been a low key Sunday and all.

I haven't felt our lost hour yet due to Daylight Saving Time (DST) but don't doubt it will catch up with me in the A.M. lol

So I thought I would share some odds and ends that has been going on recently.

I painted the town on Friday night with a couple of girlfriends like it was my birthday (but it wasn't...coming up soon though!!), and I also splurged on painting my nails with some of this

Ava turned me onto this nailpolish waaaay back when (& purchased the same color on the same day as me! Tee hee), but I never tried it b/c it truly is a splurge LOL Recently I have been seeing this nail color on a couple of people from their Spring 2010 line and finally caved.

It's like a puddy/brown colour (see the two different lightings) and reminds me more of a fall color than spring, but I've been coveting it for about 2 months now so I go it when they said it was in stock (has been hard to get since it debuted). LUVIN the natural look. There really is a difference! It goes on so effortlessly and is smooth and thick...pure quality indeed. Gonna put a top coat on it and see how it holds up with all my typing this week.

I also got to hang out with a fellow knitter and Soror DeltaPurl

We ate GAWD at the Cheesecake Factory and than walked around the mall to window shop all the irresistible eye candy merchandise Haha! Great to see you gurl!

And of course I am still running :) I've been prepping for my 10K race at the end of this month.

I am really excited about it b/c it will be a mini getaway as well. I luv Charleston and hear this race is really fun! Can't wait!

Welp that is it for now...just may have a completed project by the end of this month?!? Haha!

Take II

I am definitely on "Take II" with ALL my current WIPs right now...sigh

So I "attempted" Ravelympics but knew it was going to be a long shot getting to the finish line b/c life got busy on both fronts (work & personal) for me. It really became apparent that I wouldn't even get off the runway once I realized something was very wrong with my cabling.....can you see it??Yep not all of them are "crossing" lol.....after further inspection of my interpretation of the pattern repeat...I was doing too many plain stitches before the cable stitch on one of the rows.

And after further consultation with some knit buddies over a "lunch & knit" session they convinced me that I would need to frog and just do it right from the beginning.....I have yet to still do that....blah

Then there is the other project I was working on

This was for a KAL in my knitting group on slippers. These will some day be the prairie boots ;op

I thought I would be clever and not only knit them 2AAT but also double yarn them for extra cushion on the soles....big mistake

Gauge ended up waaaay off! They practically cover my entire foot already and I am nowhere near the point of decreasing to round out the toe on the pattern......another one to the pond!

So in my state of "Take II" I thought I would just pull out an older WIP that is pretty much on easy street as I am strictly on sleeve island now.While working on the second sleeve I realized 2 inches in that I was still working on the smaller needle used for ribbing....Doh! Could I just play it off and hope that blocking would loosen those rows up and go back to the bigger needle size? Or stay on the small needle while the other sleeve was knitted with the bigger needle?? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip

Who knows when I will finally finish a freakin project!!

But I will say it was great sitting & knitting this past weekend in my fav LYS like I used to do back in the day, because a wonderful surprise visitor came thru the door!

Jane! I had not seen her in 4-eva! And she was just looking fabulous sporting her Ravelympic sweater - it truly honored the games. Thanks for making a pit stop to see me as it was great just chit chatting with you. I always appreciate your kind words and support!

In the meantime, hopefully I will be able to show an F.O. around here soon!! ;op Happy Knitting!

O Pup's Oxford

A little while ago I featured a cute baby sweater on my blog for a very precious baby! That cute bundle of joy is nicknamed "O Pup" for fun :)
I was just so thrilled the mini oxford cardi fitted him perfectly for the winter time!! It can be hard knitting for a baby as you are not sure how fast they will grow.

Love it when our knitted gifts are used!! Especially on this red head cutie :) xoxo

Blogstalking XXII: My New Infatuation

So I just realized I hadn't done a Blogstalking post in awhile.

It also dawned on me that I hadn't shared with you all what I started doing last fall during my "great sadness" (Book: The Shack has been so cathartic for me!).

You know God always works it out that He brings you what you need just when you need it!! And one of those things for me has been RUNNING

I started out with the Couch to 5K program and then slowly progressed to now being able to run 3.1 miles= 5K (give or take on the day ;op).

And actually ran my first 5K race today!!!

Yep I am putting my knitted hats to good use :)

It was a challenging goal accomplished and it felt victorious!

Winter Ravelympics 2010

I decided to sign up again for another Ravelympics!! Last time I made the Ripple Skirt and was happy I steamed right thru that project b/c of the summer 2008 Olympics or I would have never done it!

Now I plan to use this lovely yarn (gifted by my very nice boss from Xmas)
That is Berroco in Vintage Wool. I luv the color and long yardage on this yarn!

I have my 1st skein wound and needles warmed up ready to go!
For Rosamund
She will be fondly called Crimsonmund ;o) and entering/competing in the 'Sweaterboard Cross Event' :)

Hopefully we will have a great knitting relationship together and make it to the finish line in 17 days!

Casting on will begin tonight 9PM EST during Opening Ceremonies!! Yayayay!

All Season Drops

I swear this project has been thru almost ever season And I am luvin' them most in THIS season :)

~ Project Details ~

Pattern/Duration/Fiber: Snowdrop Socks I started these in the summer time initially with a different pattern (Anastasia) but after 2 false starts (sizing was off b/c of gauge with thicker yarn - 46sts total - which is very small in this yarn) and then not grasping the "it's so easy it's hard" Anastasia pattern. I ripped them out completely and decided to use a different pattern that met me at just the "right knitting time" ;o)

Snowdrops has a very easy pattern repeat and gave the busy stripping yarn just enough busy artwork I was looking for on this pair. It was made for NORO (Silk Garden #84)!

By fall season I put them down....then picked them back up...then let them hibernate...then pulled them back out...I was so sometimey with this project...but Oooooh how I loved them b/c of the lovely NORO yarn :)

Did these socks toe up 2AAT (two-at-a-time) on US1.5 (2.5mm) needles. When we had our "mini blizzard" (saying that with sarcasm) two weeks ago, I finally decided enough was enough and needed to finish them. I really wanted my feet to finally toast in a custom pair of winter wool socks.

Firsts: I swear this pair of socks has really given me a hard time...but that is what makes me heart them even more!

I did short-rows heels that ended up being "too short" LOL But thank goodness for the stretch of wool when wet = blocking :)There are a few peek-a-boo places that I can live with considering it was my first pass at this technique.

I really like doing short rows much better than a heel flap as there is less "work" involved in it. I just now need to remember to add a few more inches before beginning the heel ;op

And I wrangled a 3 needle BO with very tiny needles....ur uh not the easy finishing that I had envisioned (I didn't position my "hold"/provisional needle correctly and had to re-thread it, as well as decrease to the original 43 sts again for 3 needle BO - will do it second to the last row next time rather than after the picot row)

It was also my first picot edge...that didn't go too well as I decided to K2 YO rather than just K1 YO...the picot edge was not as defined that way as I thought it would be....meh lesson learned.

Verdict: Despite my long and bumpy journey with this relatively easy pair of socks.

I am definitely over the moon with my very own first pair of NORO socks!! :)

Auld Lang Syne FO Parade

Yep I have some catching up to do on some FOs from 2009...you know that was 12 days ago and all :)

So here is a quick and dirty parade on the details of the items I managed to finish but was just too lazy to post up:

~ Project #1 Details ~

This cute little oxford cardi was for a precious baby name Oliver!

Pattern: This Baby Sophisticate and I will never stop signing the praises of this very easy/simple and free pattern!! It is a MUST on anyone's baby knit list!

So much so that you should make TWO!This one was a store sample at my fav shop Charlotte Yarn. They caught me sitting and knitting in there on the first sweater and so the second one was born :)

Time: Can take 3-5 days of "un-focused" knitting time (the very most) to complete.

Needles/Yarn: Both on US8 needles

Sweater #1 in Moda Dea Washable Wool about 1.5 balls of yarn in Chocolate

Sweater #2 in Artesanal by Aslan Trends every bit of 1 hank in color #19 basically grey (from the shop)

Size: Both sweaters are the largest size and with the yarn it came out to be about 3-6 months?? depending on the weight of the yarn.

Modifications: On Sweater #1 all details on my Rav project but in a nutshell I shortened the body to the small length and would have done more garter on the collar. I also did increases in the body to widen it out for the "tummy". Sweater #2 - nothing barely had enough yarn!!

Verdict: Absolutely LUV this pattern. It is a MUST DO!

~ Project #2 Details ~

Pattern: Sushi Wallet Kit by One Stick Two Stick. I blogged about it here on where to get.

Time: Umpteen years...lol I really played around on this one. It has a lot of little pieces....sigh. Realistically a fast knit.

Mods: Because of all the many sushi rolls. I had made them a little bigger....made 6 of them but 3 of them came out really tiny so I ditched them...and by then I was tired of sewing them on.

My Firsts: Putting a zipper in a pouch/wallet

Verdict: My girlfriend loved it!! :) So it was worth it!

~ Project #3 Details ~

Pattern: Marian Cowl
I've always wanted a chunky cowl around my neck to keep me warm. This made a very quick and easy Xmas gift for my boss :)

Time: Because it was a secret knit I did it in two nights.

Needles/Yarn: US 17 with 2 balls of Hometown USA yarn in Oklahoma City Green. My first time I used this yarn and it was a exact match for her new pea green leather gloves! Wish it had more yardage though.

Mods: Held yarn double for chunkiness. Did not twist the first stitch for mobius twist, just seamed down the middle.

Verdict: So elementary that anyone can do this project! And I really want to do one in hot red for myself :)

Welp! That should close out the 2009 knit F.O.s for me!

Was very pleased that all of these projects were for someone else...

SEE! I am not a selfish knitter afterall :) Now...back to my sweater and my socks

AND it fits!! thank goodness *polishes off nails* (and slightly bloody pin-cushioned fingertips LOL)

Wordless Wednesday: Knitmas Sweater Duex

Polar Morn Beret

Once upon a very cold and gloomy morning a beautiful beret was born!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: Meret (Mystery Beret) by Woolly Wormhead (Rav Link )
The pattern is intuitive and just enough zest to it so that it pops on your yarn!

Renee suggested it to me after I mentioned how I was itching to whip up a beret. Thanks for the recommendation it was a good one! As my original thought was to do my long coveted "yet to get to it" Gretel pattern, but then realized I didn't want to deal with the cabling at that particular moment.

Size: I started out with the medium and then increased to the large size (my head measures around 22"). I really could have gotten away with just the medium (with an extra pattern repeat) for the entire FO.

Time: This project was truly started b/c of the cold spells we have been having here (on a gloomy morning) and I've always wanted to knit up a beret!

Finished in just shy of a week, and it would have been faster but my schedule was super busy. The beret is a breeze and a pleasure to knit!

Needles: US 6 & US 8 with 32" cord on my harmony needles...magic looping on the brim and crown only.

Yarn/Cost: Yarn from waaay back when purchased in my Malabrigo Frenzy Haze ;op This is the color Polar Morn and probably got it for about nine bucks.

It only took one hank but for this pattern you will need EVERY BIT OF IT! So heed my words in not leaving a long tail and realizing you will need every ounce (and for my size I eliminated 2 rows of the last repeat to ensure I had enough to bind off!)

Modifications: As already mentioned this essentially is the large size, but I like my hats to fit "snug" at the brim so I casted-on for the medium on the US6s and then increased to the large stitch count. You also can tell I did the roll brim option (did 1" SS and 1" 1x1 rib)....luv it!!

Did an extra pattern repeat for slouchy-ness, but did not finish off with Rows 1 & 2 as instructed as I knew I would not have enough yarn to finish the hat! (fyi) However, I see why the designer wanted you to finish with R1 & R2 (and you should for the aesthetic look), but if you don't it is not detrimental either ;op

This has not been blocked yet so I can just imagine how it will grow once it hits water. As I said, a medium with an extra repeat would have worked just fine for my noggin as well!

I intended for it to be extra slouchy and believe I got just the right balance I wanted...I luv it!

What I learned: Nothing monumental but just how to do the easy peasey roll brim on a hat. It adds such a great decorative look to the project!

Verdict: I am very satisfied with my beret!! As it has been in full rotation since it came off the needles! This is a fabulous pattern and great/easy project!

Quickie Comfort Knit

Pattern: wham bam thank you lamb! neckwarmer

Inspired by Christie's FO who reminded me that I had this in my que forever :)

Time: Started at lunch time was finished by bed time = super fast = perfect instant knit gratification

Needles: US13

Yarn: Lion Brand Thick & Quick in Grey Marble (was in a neutral mood)

What I learned: I love comfort knitting and wanted to stay in my garter therapy mode :)

Modifications: Not one thing

Verdict: Luv luv luv

And plan to do more cowls like this one and that one :)

When the Wind Blows...

It sometimes comes unexpectedly fast and hard......

I lost someone I loved very very dearly today.....

And I know who loved me....

We loved each other...hard.

I've known him for over 1/2 of my life and it seems like we've experienced many lifetimes together.

Unfortunately we just could not love together anymore for many reasons

But we always stayed close and remained in each other hearts.

He was my best friend

My true love

And I am heartbroken today...and will never be quite the same again...

I will miss & love him always

Truly have had ZELCH inclination to even doing any of the above....and I am actually alright with that - no apologies at.all coming from me!
Sometimes you just need a break you know??

I have fooled around a tad bit here and there with knitting on some socks that I ripped and started over with a new pattern...but they are still in progress of course :o)

Also finally felted the sushi wallet but need to put the zipper on and those little sushi circles...

Ooh I gotta get started on a baby item quick! So hopefully that will get me going too.

~ As you can see I am just dibbling and dabbling for now ~ ;o)

I was surprised that I even remembered how to log into Blogger LOL

Of course I am always behind on blog reads too..maybe once a week I peek in now?? One of my friends pinpointed it as being the iPhone takeover...yes I am still stone cold in luv with Sanchez *big grin*...he rules my electronic/social media life...le sigh

Figured I would dust off the old camera and take a pic of me trying to get some inspiration

Maybe leafing thru those mags will do the trick for me?? There are some fabulous patterns in those editions (too many for me to tag!)

Blogstalking XXI: In Lurve!!

This summer I have fallen in luv with a few items. And here are my most recent ones:

Since it is an ice box at my place of employment ;op I now drink a lot...A LOT of tea to stay warm there.

I've always wanted to get into loose teas and last month I jumped into it! I saw this great contraption on my blog friend Chan's site. And so.glad.I.did!!

This is THE best invention for tea drinkers!

You place the loose tea in the little basket, fill it up with hot water, and drink from the top!! The other best feature is that the tumbler is dishwasher and microwave safe - SOLD!! Anything that makes an indulgence easier!!

Some of you may know I collect elephants, and really like to get unique/different kindThis one has both of my fav colors in it (purple & red) and lurves that she wrote my name on the leg too! My new heart elephant figurine :)

A couple of weeks ago I made it to the Asheville mountains for an art festival (it was great!!)
Well it was also extremely hot with the sun beating on us!! THIS stuff right here..is wonderful on my extra melanin self ;o) with the 70+ spf and lurves that is a spray on!! Yay!

And my most BELOVED to-date item right now......

:oD I am ab-so-lute-ly IN LUUUUUURVE!! It has totally altered my life! I rarely sign onto my real computer (which makes for back reading on blogs....sorry!) and luv all the apps that I have on it. It is so seamless and smooth!!

I am stone cold in love!! So much so I named it Sanchez ;o) LOL

Quarter Nanners

Unripe Bananas that is

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: Nanner Socks. I have always wanted to do these socks ever since they came out last summer.

And come on! You know I did these toe-up 2AAT! ;o)

Size: Small (7.5) and only did quarter length socks this time for a few reasons.

1. My mind was starting to play tricks on me and was concerned I would run out of yarn (with my 20/20 hindsight vision this thought became "false" as I could have put in 2 more repeats on the leg)

2. My time was running real short to the 31st 11:59pm deadline

3. My patience was waning with working on this pattern ;op

So 1/4 length they became!! Hey that is my favorite length socks anyway (and thigh-high socks..go figure one extreme to another!)

Time: I kicked everything to the side in July re: Wrestle WIPmania just to cram these in at the very end of the month to finish just in time! ;o)

It took me 10 days with on & off events/waning mojo/numb fingers/life in general. LOL

Needles: US1 (2.25) was initially done on a 32" cord which I knew would be too tight (esp. when it was time for gusset increases/turning the heel) so I "just" so happened to order another pair of needles in a 40" cord to have on hand.

And I "just" so happened to get the new pair of needles in the mail when I needed them!

The 32" set literally snapped in my hand!!! UGH! (yes those are erasers trying to keep my stitches in place Hahaha) SO very happy my intuition told me to order the needles as I was on a freakin' deadline! ;op And thankfully my needles were at home already waiting on me just when I needed them in this mini emergency! ;o)

Yarn/Cost: Last year when I switched jobs my old co-workers gave me a gift certificate to my fav LYS where I picked up some Fleece Artist Nova Wool in Rainforest.

This yarn knits up like BUTTA!!! Thank you again ladies! :)

I have actually switched out this particular yarn for so many projects and surprised it didn't go schizo on me ;op

The last project I was working on with this yarn was frogged for these socks ;o) It was a good decision as this yarn colorway is so bold and vibrant and busy, therefore patterns are hard to "show up" on it.

Modifications: I didn't learn anything new on this project, which is why I didn't have a specific section for that; and my modifications really weren't anything to bring attention.

For my increases on the toe I did (kfb) rather than a M1L/M1R (didn't see a big difference) and other than that I did everything as normal. Knitted until leg was 3" and cuff about a .5"

Slip stitch heel with my standard Russian BO. Nothing too out of the box as I am moving into the comfort zone with socks now ;o)

Verdict: Glad I finally got these socks out of my system as it was a pretty easy and well written pattern.

Now looking forward to my next pair of socks!!

Tinis & Purls

Earlier this month I was visiting one of the many beloved blogs that I like to keep my eye on and 2 Sistahs Knit Together had their 2nd blog anniversary contest.

And guess who won?!?! :oD It was a great package with a project bag, stitch markers, lovely yarn from Karida's Neighborhood Fiber Co. (along with a sample) and her co-authored book Pints & Purls!!

This whole package is filled with irony! As I just so happened to be thumbing thru this knit pattern book when later on that week I was notified I would be getting it! I have also been wanting to try this yarn when I heard about it after I met Chelette in person earlier this year. And how about I've always wanted a fabric made project bag ;o) But the biggest irony of it all. They randomly selected the winner which number came up to be eight and how about I was the 8th commenter and my favorite number happens to be eight!! With all of that it truly was so meant to be!! :o) And I am truly happy about it too!

It is called Kalorama Circle and it is 435 yards of 100% Superwash Merino...squeeeeeeeee!

And I am already thinking about pairing this yarn with the cowl that is in the book ;o)Which was personally signed by Karida!!! YAY!!!! Since I am more of a martini (and wine) sipper I will be a Tini & Purl chick! :o)

Saturday Sushi Time!

It should come to you as no surprise if you have peeped in on my blog wall every now and then....that you will notice that I just LUV food!! :oD

And one of my favorite items to nourish myself on is SUSHI!

What is that you say?? That middle tray doesn't look quite like Sushi?!? Haha! ;op

I saw this cute little kit awhile back and just HAD to have it!!

Mmmmmh not exactly my colors but really want to knit it up, and then I plan to give it to one of my girlfriends who is in a sorority with those colors. She will really like it! Plus I was the one who hooked her onto sushi so it will be perfect!! :o)

Those are my Anastasia socks that are growing very slowly on my needles; as I really have not given them that much attention (or any of my other projects). Hopefully I can get up to the gusset this weekend.

Trying to carve out time to knit this month has been challenging and not good for my WIPs in the wrestling ring!! Crimson Warrior needs to catch a second wind to get some slams in ASAP! ;op

In the meantime, I figured another sample wouldn't hurt Haha!

Well I am an official wrestler!! ;o) Figuratively speaking in the Ravelry WIP Wrestlemania!!

The goal is for the entire month of July to wrestle our WIPs into COMPLETION! Haha!

Crimson Warrior

This is one mean advisory, she is highly trained in use of fiber arts. Knits lightening quick and crochets very hard.

She has annihilated many WIPs in unarmed combat. We have tried to overwhelm her from afar but her cat like reflexes seem to have granted her an ability to dodge the unfinished WIP.

She is a phenomenal fiber athlete, her knitting needle points are deadly and has great focus from her inner chi.

She is able to eliminate large amounts of us yarn in any encounter.

She has killed so many of us now that she has become a living legend among the hero ranks, honored by all for her powers

She has yet to meet her match, maybe sometime soon we will have the resources necessary to tackle her and take this thorn out of our side once and for all. We heard Lord LYS is scheming some diabolical plan for her downfall

Until that time we advise to approach with extreme caution.

Hook Review!

Some time back I featured my new interchangeable crochet hooks on my blog, and many of you have wondered how I like them.

Now that I have had the chance to use both handles from my lastest projects thought I would give you the skinny on them!

Product: Provo Crochet Tools Ergonomic Handles W/Crochet Hooks (F-K)I bought this ergonomic set after several hours of constant crocheting (cranking out all those granny square blankies!) and my wrist and thumb started to hurt.

So figured I would try something that would lessen the stress on my hands, and gave these hooks a whirl. Indeed these hooks DO relieve the hand discomfort and fatigue! So they work! :o)However you must get used to the handles!! Even with me not being a long-time crocheter the "feel" of the handles and how to hold them to my comfort level was different.

They even provide suggestions on the box on different ways you can hold the handles.I personally crochet as if I am holding a "spoon" and not a "pencil". So picture #1 and #4 on the box is how I hold both handles :)

The first handle I tried out was the "trigger" oneAnd it is obviously much wider and reminded me of when I first learned how to write with a big fat pencil...remember those days?? LOL But after a few rounds I was fine and kept hookin' along. This handle is 100% plastic and very light. If you like the weight of metal hooks in your hand this one would not be for you.

The other hook handleis slimmer and is a combination of plastic and rubber. This is the one I like best as it is similar to the regular hooks with the ridge on the front, and I really can get more momentum with this handle.

My biggest dissatisfaction on this product is the quality of the grooves. How you screw in the hook to the handle depends on the grooves inside the 100% plastic handle (may have something to do with it!), which does not always align properly together. The production was not great at all.
Each letter hook you want to use depends upon which handle screws work well with the hook because of the grooves, so that the hook can be facing in the correct position once screwed in for crocheting! Not all peaches 'n cream, especially if you prefer one handle over the other (like I do).

Some other users have mentioned they wished the head of the hook was longer but that was not a big deal to me.

Just remember that they are NOT going to be exactly like your normal crochet hooks so you will have some "getting used to them" time. Which doesn't take long and is to be expected.

I will say if I had not used a 50% off coupon at A.C. Moore which brought the value down to about $12 bucks I would have been very disappointed with the quality of this product.

But for 6 hooks and 2 handles...can't complain about that at all!!As you can see the case is smaller than my Denise needle set so it is compact and easy to take along if necessary.

So my finally verdict is for the quantity of hooks as a newbie crocheter (and the comfort of longevity on my project) with the discounted price I believe it was worth the purchase (cavet being: only with the coupon)!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: Lacy Ribs Socks by Wendy D. Johnson from the Socks from the Toe Up book.

I joined the Ravelry Socks from the Toe Up KAL where each month the group will knit a pattern out of the book (for a prize of course)! Hope I get some more sock fiber goodness from the KAL's random drawing!!

Size: Small

And they are my best fitting socks thus far!! Not to mention my first pair that is full length!! (I typically get antsy and stop at the ankle lol)

Time: Started these the day I took the class with WendyKnits herself and finished up yesterday! So a little over a week (10 days)

The pattern repeats are easy and makes it a fast knit and grows quickly!

Needles: 2US & 1US (on ankles and cuffs) on 40" cord as you know I magic looped 2AAT (2 at a time)

I could have used a US1 on the entire sock but didn't want it to take me forever ;op

Yarn/Cost: I can't believe I received this yarn 2 years ago from one of my swap angels! Boy time really flies!!

Extreme Yarn in the colorway of Sherbert Delight. Actually reminds me of Pink Lemonade...hence "Sock"ade!!

Modifications: They were very minor as I followed this pattern to a tee.

I knitted the toe to a full 2" so that the lace wouldn't reveal my little toes wigglin' all the way home ;o) Haha Didn't realize a lot of knitters prefer that in sock making and now so do I!

On the ankles I switched my needles to US1 as I was concerned of slouching with the stretch of the lace pattern and it worked out just fine (plus I think the ribbing in the entire pattern truly helps with the anti-sag factor).

I also used the same size needle on my cuffs as my ribbing for some reason always gets loose; and they were extended to 1.5" as I wanted to make sure they really hugged my lower calves.

I did a variation of the Russian BO stated in the book called a Stretchy BO (that I picked up a long time ago along the way), which to me is pretty much exactly the same if not the twin version.
So glad my BO was "just right" as they are not strangling me or too loose! Yay!

What I learned: The Judy Magic CO (JMCO - video link) .....well this knitting skill I already knew how to do from making the better bucket hats but never did it on socks before without using another needle as a "provisional" hold so that was different for me.

I truly don't see much difference between the JMCO and my handy dandy Turkish CO. I could argue that learning the Turkish CO is much easier than JMCO (as you gotta remember and figure out which fingers/yarn wrap where). So I still favor the Turkish CO since they pretty much look the same IMO.

I was thrilled to finally do a slip stitch heel from the toe up!! That was my first try at it and I just love the look without having to actually do it top down!! Score!!

Also learned something that it seems like No one ever talks about!!! Picking up those darn W/T (wrap/turns) SEAMLESSLY.

My pick ups were looking great on the "left" side of the heel (showing publicly) but on the "right" side looked a mess!! My wonderful Purl friend Heather helped me solve it by how the stitches were being positioned and then knit both together in the back (Thank You!!!). Mystery Solved!!

Verdict: Really enjoyed knitting the socks and it was great doing this sock as a KAL because it helped me push thru at the very end when I was getting tired of doing the leg (dang you gotta do the pattern all the way around Haha) ;op

Pennie (Extreme Yarn) told me to make something wonderful and I think I got some wonderful "Sock"ade!

Tippy Toe Knitting

Yesterday morning I was able to take a sock class in person with WendyKnits herself! And got the chance to fondle all of her socks that are featured in her book too!Then I happened to look up from my needles and seated right across from me was a blogger pal that I had yet to meet IRL!
Zonda!! :o) We drop each other little blog comment presents from time to time (giggle), but I never really expected to meet her in the flesh Haha!

So I had to get the proper blog photo for the occasion! :o)Told you this has been a great year of no travel and still getting to meet soooo many people!

And not to mention seeing some of my Purl friends again that I had not seen in such a long time!!

Of course with Wendy J. too!! :oD

The sock class was just the push I needed to get back started again in cranking up those teeny tiny needles.

I joined the Ravelry Socks from the Toe Up KAL where each month the group will knit a pattern out of the book! This month is Lacey Rib and it is going very well!! I am excited about it b/c I am loving the colors of this yarn and the easy pattern, not to mention this will be my first "long" pair of socks (I always get antsy and stop at anklets or quarter length socks).

I would recommend this book as there are explicit directions on how to do various toe-up COs with easy to understand directions. I've always been that gurl who loves doing 2AAT toe-up socks as I don't like the mystery not knowing if this sock is going to fit me. More patterns are now considering toe-up in their directions but most are in the traditional top-down approach. So the book is great in providing lots of easy to do options for toe-up patterns along with different heel options too!

The only thing I would say is because it is so cookie cut it doesn't break down how you could adjust the patterns specific to your unique size (i.e. skinny ankles/narrow feet, etc.) and expects you to intuitively understand how socks are designed so the training wheels of the step by step instructions are necessary. Which is exactly what I need right now until I get more comfortable in my sock making skin ;o)

Round & Round We Go!

I don't know why that song (for those who get the title...hint: S.crub da G.round haha) popped up in my head.

But I started off crocheting in a square and now in a round circle!

~ Project Details ~

This blanket was a baby gift for a friend I cherish who had been asking for something knitted for herself awhile ago....well she got something crocheted for her baby instead! ;op

Pattern: Round Ripple Afghan by Sew On Fire Ministries

In general all the round ripple patterns are about the same, but glad I was steered towards this one b/c I could actually half way read the pattern on my own!

Still needed some guidance on exactly "which hole exactly do I insert my hook again?!?!" but once you get past the center and understand the repeats it is easy breezy!

Size: Diameter from point to point is 41.5 inches and a total of 31 rounds.

Hope big enough for a baby?? Definitely big enough for my lap ;o)

Time: On/off during the month of May....honestly I got sick of working on this blanket over time and just trudged through it towards the end, as it wasn't going as fast as I would have liked in comparison to the granny squares Haha

Hook: G

Yarn: The yarn I used was Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! in #140 - Mid Green (2) #160 - Brown (1) #20 - Ivory (1)
What I learned: To do the infamous ripple effect of course!!! And how to crochet in the round :)

Notes: As you can see I decided on doing a trio effect with the colors and the rotations went like this: Center - Green (first 6 rounds), then 4r brown beginning repeats with *1r white/4r green/2r brown*

Border only 3r green 1r brown 2r white with 1 sc of green edging

Verdict: I think this is a perfect crochet baby blanket or laphan, as I plan to make one for myself in the future.

And she loved it!! :oD

The Start of....

knitting occurred this M.emorial D.ay weekend!

I decided to do a quick and cute purse since I've been sitting on this cute purse handle from last year

So I eagerly started knitting again since I've been hooking so much,
with some of my fav yarn of couse! :o)

and even tried a new technique

Double Knitting!!!! I really enjoy it!! Even though I am still fumbling thru on how to exactly do the increases and decreases...suggestions/help anyone??

Well as fun and challenging as this project has been..it has not been going well :o(

I first wasted 2 hours of my knitting life to discover what was frogged I really was doing correctly...sigh. So I started again.

And then realized my purse handle was NOT going to match up with my knitting

DOH!!!! Too big (and too thick to fit b/c of the double knitting)! Ugh!

.....Soooooo I will have to order a new handle, which completely defeats the purpose of having a free handle *rolls eyes* As you can see I refuse to start over, but also refuse to keep knitting right now....back to crocheting!!!

That darn baby blanket which I am sick of working on now....it is big enough so gonna end it soon. Besides the baby shower is this upcoming Saturday, so that will be a wrap either way!

Despite the start of my knitting coming back and the start of my crochet fever now wearing off...

It is the unofficial start of summer! You really can't kick off a M.emorial D.ay right unless you have some of this

Rip Rip Ripplin'

It UP over here!!

Well I started out with the traditional granny square in crocheting, so why not continue with the Ripple!! :o) However this is not the traditional ripple, but a round one!That is what attracted me to this pattern. Didn't want to do the back and forth, but was interested enough to want to ripple!

This project is not going as fast as I would like since I am using a smaller hook, and really have to pay attention to which hole I need to be in But figured it would be faster to crochet, rather than knit, this baby blanket up for a shower at the end of this month. I hope they like it!!

I wonder if I will remember how to knit after all of this hookin' ;op Haha!

The Pleasure was ALL Mine

It truly was this past Sunday!

I was able to finally meet one of my favorite bloggers Deborah!!!She was one of the very first bloggers I began reading when introduced to the knit blog world, and just loved her candor, opinions, and quiet humor (she has TONS of it). And while sitting and knitting (well...I was crocheting) for about fours hours (it flew by!!) proved to be ALL true as well!!

It is just truly refreshing when you meet someone that is exactly what you expected them to be IRL (in real life). And she is just as beautiful in person!! Flawless skin!

Deborah also came with her cute Noro socks on that she whipped up on her square needles

There just isn't anything vanilla about Noro :o) Lurves it!!

And then she surprised me with a memento from the Dem.oratic Nat.ional Con.vention (and her cute mini F.lickr card)Just fabulous!!! Living vicariously thru my knit pals!! :o)

I haven't stated on here how this is my year of no travel, and it has just been amazing how so many of my blog friends just happen to be in the area and I am meeting y'all!!! That has been such a blessing and the pleasure has truly been all mine!!!!

This Ain't Your Grandma's

crochet!!!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: Chocolate-covered Cherries Afghan by Lion Brand Yarn

I've always wanted to do a granny square....well...once I decided to put down the needles long enough to really get into crocheting.

I am here to declare that you are not a true crocheter until you've done a granny square!!! ;op

From the start I knew there would not be a bunch of mini squares (as most granny square afghans are traditionally done) by my hands; as I didn't want to put a whole lot of "elbow grease" in it (seaming, changing tons of colors, etc.)

With that being said One Big Ole Granny Square was perfect for me!! :o)

Presenting....Cella whose namesake comes from my absolute fav chocolate covered cherries!! How fitting ;o)

Time: I did this "lapghan" in honor of March Crochet Month working off and on it until April (about a month). It really is a smooth sailing project and quite addictive!

Size: My 2009 afghan (one has been done every year since Lizzie!) is 40 rounds total and measures at 52.5" x 48.5".

I never intended to make it that large until another Purl in my knitting group caught the granny square bug too (along with a couple others) and was making her project huge for a male recipient...so I thought I should keep going too! Haha!

I just love how it drapes over my legs and keeps me warm. Even cozier doubled up!

HOOK/Yarn: This is my 1st crochet project so my first time having to say "hook" vs. needles in my post and hitting the "crochet" button on Ravelry ;op which was just a bit different for me.

On this lapghan I used a size K hook with Vanna's Choice yarn (first time dipping into this yarn brand), which needed 6 balls in expresso and 4 balls in Cranberry. I will say VC is one of the better acrylic yarns I've used thus far.

Modifications: I pretty much stuck to the pattern (how hard is a granny square right?!? Very cookie cut).

However, since I was still trying to get comfortable with crocheting and getting my tension right I never did the 1 ch. in between the 3 dc.

And of course you may have noticed I did my "border" with 4 rounds in red and 3 rounds in brown ending with a SC edging. That is really not a mod, but more of a designer's choice ;o)

I will make a reminder note that in doing the edging for the corners to do 4sc next time versus 3sc as they are curling up a bit.

What I learned: That I was very proud of myself doing my first 100% crochet project...finally!

I also learned how to do color change, join new yarn, and weave all my ends in as I crocheted! Yay!and there were a lots of them!!

Towards the end I learned that crocheting can be addictive like knitting too :oD

Because....

I didn't want it to endI started another one!!!

This was actually a gift to my close girlfriend for her 30th birthday (this weekend! which is why I can now blog about both afghans...she has it!!).

I whipped this one up even faster as I started it on a Thursday and it was washed and mail delivered to her by the following Friday!!

I was burning up the yarn on this one ;op Gotta love my ergonomic hook! ;o)

Specs on #2: On this one I used the I Love This Yarn brand only thru H.obby L.obby 2 balls of Red and 1 ball of Antique White (only one ball as you saw what happened to the second ball Hahaha).

These colors were chosen b/c it is both (my friend and I) sorority colors!! OOO-OOP!

I liked this particular yarn in that there was twice as much in the ball for a better value! It is also super soft, but after being washed it becomes a bit stiff and sheds more than the Vanna's Choice yarn. That is minor for the value! Next time I would just put a fabric softener liquid ball in my washer ;o)

This was done a bit smaller since I had a shorter window of time to complete it. Strawberry Shortcake (hey..sticking with the food theme haha) has 29 rounds and measures at 42" x 40" with a red SC trim to complete it.

Verdict: Again I am so proud to complete not 1 but 2 crochet projects coming straight out the gate!

This is absolutely a great pattern to start warming up your hookin' skills on!

And mighty cozy to knock the A/C chill off your legs this summer too ;o)

back into knitting was ironically during Easter weekend with this lovely shawlette

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: This is the Forest Canopy Shoulder Shawl, and you may have to do a double take b/c some of you will recognize/think you are looking at the Flower Basket shawl its twin! :o)

I selected this pattern over the other one because of the ease and simplicity of the instructions.

Susan Lawrence did an excellent job with orienting a newbie knitter to triangle shawls (yep my 1st one) with tons of information and explicit directions.

Size: Shawlette/scarfJust enough to knock the chill off. I will actually wear this more as scarf than a shawl.

Have y'all seen the lastest trend with the P.alestinian scarves (that everyone & their mama is wearing)?

Well I've decided that mine is the chic and unique version of those! Haha! I like it a lot b/c it isn't the trend ;o)

Yarn/Cost: The yarn was gifted to me in my local knitting group during our Purly V.alentine swap back in February (yep I did a couple swaps at the beginning of the year).

And you may recall I featured it here on my blog if you want to learn more about it. It actually is NOT malabrigo! LOL

Because the yarn was picked out for me the colors are different from my usual, which I like as it forced me out of my color box! I really needed that! Since everything I knit can't be purple and red! Haha!

Needles: US 6 on 32" cord

Time: As mentioned earlier I started this project Easter weekend, and it really is an easy flowing fast knit. I only clocked in mileage during lunch time or after work here and there. The majority of the project was worked on during a car trip to D.C. so that easily knocked it out!

Saying all that it took about 2 weeks not focusing on it since I was just warming up my knit mojo, but also crocheting too.

What I learned: How to block a triangle shawl!! The rigged up and easy way w/o wires :o)

You may notice above the string going down the middle, and I also did it going across the top. You just stretch the string out put some pins around the border and viola!!

It was also great to finally understand the concept on how most triangle shawls come to life...I truly had no clue Haha

Modifications: I made none. The pattern called for 10 repeats. I did exactly that.

Mainly because I only had two hanks of yarn and was concerned I wouldn't have enough to finish the bottom edge repeat and bind off. I had some leftover but definitely not enough to do another pattern repeat.

I also knew right away that I needed to put the repeats on index cards to keep myself straight. And I am proud to say not one hang up and I never used a lifeline! Yay!! I love index cards!!

Measurements:

~Pre-Block~

Length: 17" Width: 35"

~Post-Block~

Length: 25" Width: 47"

Verdict: I am really not big on shawls, but wouldn't mind cranking one out from time to time (would love to do a big comfy one next).

Since it was my first time doing a triangular shawl (definitely recommend this one for any 1st timer!!), I know that I would need to have a "stick-to-it"ness on these projects as the rows just get longer and longer LOL

It truly was a pleasure to knit this project just as much as it is to wear!!

New Trade New Tools

Yep since I started dipping my toes (just the pinky one for now ;op Haha) into crocheting I figured I needed a few new tools for my new trade

Always wanted the Happy H.ooker book and since I started and finished my first crochet project (will do the proper F.O. post soon) I thought it justified me scooping it up last month.

Also, with the long carefree hours I was clocking in on my crochet project I noticed my hand was getting tired with the bazillion repetitive DCs why not invest in an Ergonomic interchangeable set??Got it at a great deal with a 50% off coupon for only $11 at the end of the day. You can get them at A.C. M.oore or W.al-Mart and if for some reason you don't see the set there you can buy here for the same great deal.

I was surprised at the light and very plastic handles since I was expecting more "rubber". If I had paid more than I did for the set I would have been not happy with the quality! Haha! Haven't broken them in yet to test out how I like working with them but will keep you posted.

Finished up my shawl and as soon as I can get it blocked with some pics I will plaster some knitting content up here...finally! LOL

Fun Surprises!

Well over the weekend I got a SURPRISE visit from one of my long time blog friends Shameka!!

She just happened to be in the area and made sure we connected! :o) I was so delighted b/c we have been chit chatting about anything and everything for awhile now. So it is always great to meet someone you've been having an e-friendship with Haha!

Of course we had to go out and eat!! Went to my fav sushi restaurant in the area where she was visiting fam.
Yep had to get some pineapple martinees with the sushi..Hey! It was a Friday night ;o)

I believe I started reading Shameka's blog first and noticed she was in the knit world with other bloggers I followed like Rosi G. and Jeanine...luv them gurls!!! So it was kinda like I was meeting them indirectly too (well in my mind at least! Haha)...Heeeeeey y'all! :oD

We had a great time chit chatting had our tempura mango dessert and then of course we whipped out our knitting (well...I was hookin' it up! Haha)Shameka's sock bug may have bit me so I can see another pair in my future again very soon! ;op
My granny square blankie has been addictive in that it is so mindless that I can't get enough of it. More crochet blankies are definitely in my future.

Shameka gurl thanks for connecting with me while you were in the rainy QC! Hoping you make your way back when we have better weather!!

Neapolitan Blog B-day!

So I have something special around my neck for my blog b-day :) Yep today makes it 2 years since I've been blogging!! (it snuck up on me this time!)

~ Project Details ~

Pattern/Size: The well known Kusha Kusha scarf. Anyone who ever wants to try this particular yarn typically starts out with this pattern!!

Yarn/Cost: If you haven't figured it out by now then I will help with this flashback photo as I highlighted the yarn on this post many knit moons ago ;op

this Habu A-20, 1/20 Silk Stainless in colorway #1 (white) and Habu Textiles A-1, 2/17 Tsumugi in colorway #54 (speckle brown) for $30.

Every time I pulled this project out to work on it I always got lots of inquisitive questions about the yarn, what it was made out of, and lots of touches!

Especially on the white steel yarn

Really it is soft! And you are literally knitting with thread which takes every ounce of concentration and patience within you to work on it!

But it was kind of neat to have a conversation starter in my little knit bag! :o)

Needles: I don't think I have ever used this many needles on one tiny/delicate project!

It was nice to put my Addi lace turbos in use on this project and they really helped!!

Time: HA!!! ....HA!!! ;oD I purchased this yarn with this project in mind almost a year ago! Back in May '08 when I met Adrienne for the first time during my Mini A.T.L. Excursion (gosh that seems like forever ago!). That was where I discovered my fav LYS in that city called Knitch (click on the above link to see more on the shop - it is FAB!) who had an entire table dedicated to this beautiful yarn!! I knew immediately I had to take some home with me!

So I casted on very excited and....even had a mini KAL with some of my knit pals trying to keep each other accountable with weekly status updates and.....

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell......

It was like birthing a freakin' baby because 9 months later I finally decided to complete the scarf!!! I swear it stayed at 98% completion For-freakin-ever! Haha! ;op

What I learned: I know, that I know, that I know, that I know I have more determination and patience than I ever thought! ;op LOL

You are also truly your own designer!

As you can see I decided to do mine Neapolitan style with three different colors

Reminds me of the ice cream :o) Come on you remember having those three flavors at b-day parties!! How perfect for this since it is my blog b-day! :oD

I doubled the steel and silk together in the first block, then doubled the silk in the middle block, and then on the last block just the steel.

Because there is SO many ways you can make this scarf with different color combos and yarn selection (silk/merino wool = felt/unfelt).
I just luv stalking this project to see all the different ways everyone is making this scarf!!

So there aren't any modifications for this project since you can knit to your heart's desire, but below is how I decided to do it for myself (luckily I took notes on this way back when and stored it on Rav):

CO 68 (US 10) Changed to US 8 and then accidentally did 3 rows of garter. Switched to SS. Did all the decreases per instructions to the 48 stitches. Knitted with both until double the size.
Then switched to only the pure silk doubled (still US8 needles). Decrease that until 38 sts. Added back the steel by itself knitted 2 rows on US8 should have switched to the US6 needles immediately, knitted until I felt like changing to US4 and likewise for the US3s. Knitted the last 3 rows in garter like I did in the beginning. Finished loosely. So this is a buried blog bday treat to see if you are really reading all of this, so you must comment to be entered by letting me know all three items on if you ever tried stainless steel yarn, if you liked it, and if you would knit with it. Then I will do a random selection within one week of this post to announce who got this tricky blog treat. But I am confident there will be more who catch this then I thought would so this will be fun to see who responds back. Because really who goes thru all the modifications.

Verdict: It was like a p.leasusre/t.orture knitting on this scarf as it is soooo beautiful but takes soooo long to get any progress on it with the light weight yarn...le sigh..

But it was all worth it!! It truly is a work of knit art!

I also figured having this project done in time for my blog anniversary made it even better! :o) It is such a great spring accent that keeps you warm!

How was your week??

For me, it seems I was always a day ahead of myself the entire time! So this week just c.r.a.w.l.e.d and finally got to Friday the 13th! :o)

I really had not been feeling 100% this week.

Sleeping with my windows up during the 70+ degree weather finally caught up with me and my allergies flared up!
Talk about watery eyes, sore throat (you know that whole mucus drain thang), and dry cough combos did not make for a cheery Stacey :o)

But I will say this stuff right hereis the TRUTH!! This was the best ever in soothing my sore throat/cough symptoms (great discovery!), of course along with some Loratadine a.k.a. Claritin ;op

I almost didn't make it the Opera last night to see The M.arriage of F.igarobut I couldn't pass up free AND front row tickets!! It was a wonderful time and my 1st opera!!!

I can now say I've fulfilled my arts and culture quota for the month of March! LOL
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience and it really was fantastic!

I have picked back up one of my secret knits that should have been done last fall...but I fell out of 'knit love' with it ;op So trying to get thru it so I can send it off.
So no pics of that WIP until the big reveal since she reads my blog.

But I have been working on a new project honoring "March as Crochet Month" :oDThis is the beginnings of my Big Granny Square Afghan! I've always wanted to do this crochet lapghan and now will have it!

It felt so weird hitting the "crochet" button on Ravelry since this is my 1st crochet project :oD

Though this weekend is cold (again) dreary and rainy I am thrilled to get some rest, much needed cleaning of the place, and some knitting! And.....break into my 2nd quart of one of my fav B&J flavor!! ;op

Stone Cold Pimlico

I finally finished one of my "lust knits"You know the ones that you covet after seeing it on someone else for "oh so" long...the ones where you make all the preparations in getting the pattern and purchasing the yarn.

Yep that would be this one!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: It's the Pimlico Shrug from the Knit 2 Together book. The collar had me at Hello!! :oD

I really have been wanting to make this sweater for about two years, and can now finally mark it as "conquered" :o)

Size: I casted on for the small/medium size knowing I would shorten the length of this shrug.

As someone simply put it this is just a blanket with sleeves! ;op

Time: I picked up my needles to begin this project at the very end of December and put them down by the end of February all while not being monogamous (when am I ever?!?), which explains all those fun mini knits you all have been seeing as they have kept my sanity! Haha!

Let me just say this thing grows like grass on your needles!!! It really does seem like an endless knit because there is soooo much of the body to do that is one huge square block, and then there is soooo much ribbing of the neckline to do! As some of you may recall I started fondly calling it "The Beast" towards the end! ;op

Needles: Using my Harmonies in US 5 for ribbing, US 7 for body, and US 6 for binding off. While utilizing the 36" cord for magic looping the sleeves, the 40" cord for the body of the shrug and then the 47" cord for picking up stitches and ribbing of the collar.

Yarn & Cost: I originally purchased 8 skeins of Malabrigo worsted in Stonechat (my 2nd fav colorway!)But only needed to use 5 skeins total (having about half leftover on the 5th skein!). So it cost about $50 for this shrug instead of what I originally thought to be $80 in the Mal yarn. It also worked out well that one of my fellow Purl pals ended up buying my extra skeins :)

I truly do not plan on knitting with Malabrigo for large garments ever again (except to finish up Ms. Rho that is already OTN and quietly hibernating), as this yarn does not wear very well at all.

I can already see the "afro haze" and fuzz balls after only one wear!! Just like on my Buttony sweater...pfft. I do not like that at all.

I now plan to keep my use of Malabrigo limited to only accessory knit items.

What I learned: Honestly not much at this point. When I actually desired to do this project I was a very new knitter so the entire thing terrified me, especially the collar and how I would have to pick up stitches with little experience.

Since then I've worked on many projects having done everything I needed to know by the time I made the shrug making it that much easier.

I didn't even dread picking up and knitting all those kazillion stitches (total of 478 to be exact)!

It just dawned on me that I had to M1P for the first time ever and was completely stumped on that for the increases. Thank goodness for the abbreviations in the back of the book. :o) That was a great new little tip I learned!

Modifications & Recommendations: There is quite a few here on this project and I will try to highlight them all.

I didn't get the bright idea to switch up the stitch pattern until I saw Yarn Abuse's Pimlico Yay!! Because the original stitch pattern had too many rows in the repeat for me to concentrate on ;op A hole is a hole is a hole is a hole Haha!

I just wanted something light and easy, so I altered stitch pattern to be: R1: {K2, YO, K2tog} last 3 sts knit; R2: K2 {K2, YO, K2tog} last 5 sts knit. Over the 161 sts

Knitted the body for only 18.5" to avoid the slouch in the lower back However, the way the shrug is structured (square then pick up in a circle) you can't avoid the bat wings ;op I knew that going into this knit.

When seaming for the armholes I almost got twisted and thought to do the bind off and cast on edge, but you truly do the side seams! I mattress seamed the sleeves in for 5 1/2 inches, and should have left an extra inch as there is no budge since you are working with edges (so make sure you leave enough room as it can get tight around your arms).

I also picked up around the armhole then began knitting for the sleeve, rather than knitting the sleeves separately to attach later (nixing the whole seaming exercise).

When I did that I had about 26 sts. (half of the recommended stitches) and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too tight!I could take my blood pressure with that! LOL

So I ripped back and still picked up for the number of stitches that was on the armhole (26 sts) then increase the next round by doing (kfb) in each stitch to double the count. Much better!! The 1st armhole came out great at 52 sts. then the 2nd one was 42 sts. and is a bit tight.

Highly recommend going with the 52 sts count on the sleeves.

I also shortened the sleeves by 1 inch in the 2x2 section, based on some comments by others that the sleeves were too long. But now wish I had knitted the full 10.5" sleeve (rather than a total of 9.5") as I like the long length.

As far as the collar instead of binding off the body I kept those stitches live and then came around to pick up the other half of the stitches for a total of 318 (later increased to the 478 with the 3x3 ribbing).

That worked out well for the lower part of the body to drape nicely. But if I had to do it all over again I would have bound off and took the time to pick up the stitches again for a better "structured" look.

Verdict: I am torn. As this has been one of my highly sought after knits, with lots of hours clocked in, but can't see myself really wearing it outside the house much.

As you can see so much has changed since my last post. It is sunny and mid 70s here this weekend!! So the shrug is really not needed outside anymore! I really was trying to beat the spring fever spell!

I am sure there will be a few more brisk days ahead and since the Malabrigo gets your body heat up super fast (read as: "hot as hell" LOL) I think this will now become my new house shrug, replacing my beloved Bobbilicious.

Glad to get the Pimlico Shrug out of my system, and I now have a new fav "cozy up in" knit!

So Happy 2nd day of March! I can't believe the first quarter of the year is quickly coming to an end!!

And guess what we got last night on the 1st day of this month ;op

Finally some real snow!! Nothing record breaking, but enough to shut down our city again! LOL Workfree day!! Woot! Woot!

I heard the kids late last night playing in it! Haha!

Speaking of March it is also National Crochet Month!! One of the Purls (Donna) sat down with me and another Purl (Pam) in our knit/crochet group to show us how to do
Granny Squares!! Bet you can tell which one is mine huh?? LOL (hint: the messy one) You really can't call yourself a true crocheter until you've done one of these! Hahaha!

And it is also Malabrigo March too!!! Yay!!!

I promised myself I would pull out my BTS vest from its plastic chamber and work on it this monthAfterall it is out of the beautiful Rhodesian malabrigo (why she is called Ms. Rho). She has been in hibernation for about a year now....le sigh

So the Malabrigo Junkie KALs may actually get me to work on a longtime WIP instead of starting something new...pooh

I did finish my pimlico shrug (in Malabrigo too!) and today would have been a perfect day to get pics of it in the snow! But my one minor problem is not having an available snapper...again. Will be back with that F.O. post eventually, until then

I have this growing list of many things I wanted to take the time out to show my appreciation (which just reflects how blessed I am to know so many kind people) and now is the time!

So, not too long ago I had a blog DeLurker Day and BOY was it nice to see who out there is reading me!! :o)
It just really brought a smile on my face to know you all are taking time to stop by and see what I am up to over here!
Thank you so much for stepping out of your norm in "lurkdom" to shout out to me with a kind comment! It was great to discover new blogs too!!!

Also, my e-knit pals are FAB! You all immediately came out with the advice on how to secure my loose stitch!! Thank you to everyone that gave me tips in helping me be Ms. Knit Fix!!! Or just stopped by to chit chat about those darn G.S. cookie m.onsters! Haha!

Awhile back I asked a blog friend to pick me up one of those Ravelry "Hello my name is" pins, that I never seem to be in the right place at the right time to get, when she was at Rhineback (I would love to go to this fiber festival one day!).

And Veronica ended up sending me a small package!!

SWEET-HEART!
Not only did I get the original pin I wanted, but two more! AND AND AND some malabrigo sock yarn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o) I am just a little happy about it!!! LOL

This is my 1st time getting the Mal sock line since its yarn splash last year! (fondled it yes, having it no Haha)
So I was over the moon PLUS it is in a crimson color - SEE! * lean in closer!* ;opThis meant a lot to me as I've really been trying to be good about not buying yarn (except for a couple swaps I was in so far) and to rely on my stash that has been coming in handy during a lean budget year.
So this package really made me feel good about being diligent in that area!!

Ms. Knit Fix-It??

Hey Gang! :o)

Hope all is well in your world on the other side of the screen!

So it has been a little damp and cold here again lately. And I've been wearing my Lady Detective Hat until I saw this:

*gasp* a dropped stitched on a finished project!

*relax, relate, release*

So I climbed the lone star stitch up the ladders with my fingers...no biggie

But now what??? I did a 3 needle bind-off on the brim of the hat....so how do I secure it??

In other knit news:

I have been feverishly trying to complete my Pimlico Shrug in trying to beat the spring season before it arrives here early in the south
plowing thru rows and rows and rows....and rows of ribbing (it has now been dubbed "The Beast"). Hoping to have it finished by the end of this month.

And in food news:

"They" get me every year (as I am certain they got you too!)Lets just say not all of them are in the freezer LOL

My weakness is those darn Samoas a.k.a. Caramel De Lites (back when I sold them as a girl for 75 cents a box!!)

Yeah we will see how long they will "live" in the freezer Haha!

My Funny Valentine

Recently I worked on a project that I couldn't help but notice had the traditional red & white Valentine colors

But red and white colors are also the non-official colors of my sorority D.elta S.igma T.heta (DST)!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: I actually ended up doing my first test knitting! And I was more than happy to work on it for a couple of reasons.

One: I really wanted to do a fair isle project (2009 knit goal..check!) and

Two: I've always wanted to knit something up Delta related as I am an active member of my dynamic sorority! :o)

So I was excited when my greek sister (S.G.Rho) Anna designed The Call Hat: DST Version This is an easy to follow pattern, even for first-timers doing colorwork like myself! :o)

Time: Since I was learning a new skill that was a little awkward my knitting was a bit slower, but it only takes a weekend of monogamous knitting :o)

Needles: I used US 4 and US 6 needles on the hat on my Harmony needles for magic looping.

Yarn & Cost: Because this was my inaugural fair isle project I anticipated having to work on my tension and wasn't really sure how the project for me would work out so I used the ole cheapo Red Heart Super Saver in both colors for only $4.00 all together!! :oD

As you can see it came in obnoxious red and pure as the driven white snow LOL

Size: Weeeell let the pictures of some of my friends speak for themselves ;opOkay well what about a bigger head??even with more hair too! :o)Those were my co-workers from my last job and they were really good about being my willing models! We had fun taking the pics!! Thank you guys!!!! ;oD

There wasn't a gauge on this pattern but I used the same yarn weight and from my understanding the hat was made for about a 22-23” head.

I thought I had a small nugget but when I finally took out a measuring tape it said I had a 22" head. So not sure why my hat came out so big.....

What I learned: Two-handed Fair Isle technique with no floats! Yay!!!

I truly like the fact you can wrap your floats as you go!

Since my dominate hand is continental/left, the majority of this project was done english/right hand which I am still getting used to and slowed my progress down just a bit. Which also completely changed my tension to be tighter (you think this would have made my hat smaller...go figure).

Additionally, I really need to understand how to do jogless knitting in the round as it is visible where the color change takes place on the hat.

Last but most important...I learned there was a reason why I never used/desired to use Red Heart yarn LOL And I'll leave it at that ;op

Modifications: I did rig the "P" by not adding an additional vertical row on the hind leg or front end of the letter.

Next time I will cast on less stitches and decrease for the crown sooner, as my head may be 22" wide but definitely not that long!

I also made some small tweaks on the crown chart to reflect the actual picture in the pattern; all of these changes noted to the designer :o)

Verdict: Even though this project did not "fit" how I hoped it would I was just thrilled to be doing something new and stretching myself, as I enjoyed knitting this up and will do it again!

For the past 3 years I have been knitting up slippers (a.k.a. house shoes Haha for the ole school kids like me) around/on Valentine's Day.Yeah those are a little beat up! LOL

So it was time for some new ones!!

Valentine "Snow Day" Slippers #3 - Circa 2009

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: Some of y'all noticed this project on my Rav page last week! Thanks for the heart/love over there. Dang! How do y'all figure out when I am done with a project before I blog or post in a rav group about it?? ;o)

Well I am all about free these days and this pattern is complimentary once you do a quick sign up on the site. It is called the Side Cable Slippers that is a piece of cake to knit!

Just so you know I am always on a quest for great slipper patterns and had this one in my Rav que for a minute.

Size: These were knitted flat for 9.5” (pattern suggested 8") for my 7.5 US size feet.Then you "cinch them together on the end and seam down the middle leaving an opening to put your feet in. That.is.it! No fuss! Luvs it!!

Time: Only one day.

We had another faux “snow” day last week here in the QC (wasn't mad about it!). And it became perfect timing for a quick knit to do my yearly Valentine slippers!

Needles: I went searching for US13 in my Harmony set...but ur uh yeah that size is not in the standard kit (only up to 11)! LOL So glad I had my Denise set that is now my back up which has US15 (yay!). I still love that needle kit! ;o)

Yarn & Cost: Continuing to knit from stash is my mantra right now!! This yarn was actually gifted to me last year by my Purly friend Janet! Yay!

I used 1 skein, held doubled of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky in the color Concord (blue/purple). Sometimes you just gotta pull out the good ole LB yarn!!! ;op

I luv winding my balls of yarn into cakes, then taking both ends to wind it again together to knit it "double" without all that bobbing around in a ball from both ends, rather it is just from one!

What I learned: Well, I just reinforced my cabling without a needle skill. Which was great to put that back into practice and you can watch a video of it here.

I also looked around and remembered I had these little accessory appliances (never been used yet!), along with some leftover yarnAnd made Pom Poms!!!I had bought these things last year and never used them...in fact didn't know how when it was time!!

Did a quick internet search and found more detailed written instructions, and even better How-To Pictorial which helped me as I needed to "see" it!

I love these little contraptions now!! As I used to detest making pom poms. These things are the best and now see why everyone was raving about them!!

These literally are like my own comfy house footies

Modifications: I accidentally didn’t follow the pattern and did the the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cables with only two rows in between vs. four rows. (actually prefer how pattern was written with the 4 rows)

And as mentioned earlier I knitted a little longer to 9.5" on these.

Recommendations: I threaded the end twice before seaming. Leave long ends for seaming, particularly for seaming down the middle (14” was not enough).

And added puff paint at the bottoms to prevent bustin’ my duff! ;op

Had to stay with the V-day theme! :o)

Verdict: These are easy peasy & SUPER warm! Will definitely be making more as they are quick gifts to knit up!

Realized while seaming that I was joining/looking at more horseshoe cables (like my Bella mitts)! Apparently I am really into those lately ;op

Now I am all fired up for the V day!! :oD

Blogstalking XVIII: The Food Edition

Some of you may have heard about our "snow" here in the south this past week.
I said it that way because it is our typical yearly event (2-4") that melts by the end of the day! LOLBut it has been "cold" (said that way b/c it is for us!) here; and besides my mittens keeping me warm lots of yummy teas have
My double brew of white pomegranate and peppermint tea in my new fav mug. I am getting ready to upgrade to some Teavana!

and favorite comfort foods
My good ole winter standby of grilled cheese on whole grain bread (lil crisp haha) and tomato basil soup!

And weekend breakfasts has consisted of
Scramble egg whites with cheese and more whole grain bread with sugar free raspberry jam (so y'all know what I ate this Sunday morning!)

And one of my girlfriends knows how much I lurve lurve LURVE Garrett's popcorn (you can only get in Chicago). So on New Years Day she brought me a bag back from her layover there
That barely made it thru the day!!! Lurve my cheese and caramel mix snack!
It didn't stand a chance and was demolished and devoured within 24 hours! LOL

My lips and fingers could not even lie! ;op

Lawd help me!! :oD My body still has yet to recover from all of my holiday eating....sigh Haha

Brightness in Twilight

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: I took notice of this pattern on the Lime & Violet post earlier this month. The cute horseshoe cables and the word "free" hooked me! :o)

These are the Bella's Mittens by Marielle Henault and I immediately went to Ravelry to scope them out, and I kept seeing them being referred to as the "Twilight Mitts"...and I was perplexed as to why....if I only had read the pattern! LOL
Apparently they were designed after the mitts the lead actress wore in the movieI am by no means a Twilight fan, and have no desire to read or watch the movie but love the mitts!

This pattern was VERY well written. I cannot say that enough! Marielle really did a great job on the line by line instructions never keeping you guessing along with a nice variety of pictures. The total opposite from the last pattern I worked up (haha!)

I was pleasantly pleased with this pattern AND it was free?!?! Bonus!!

Size: I just recently read somewhere that mittens are simply hand socks with thumbs! Haha! So true! :o)

These mitts are a one size fit all type pattern (which I normally don't like), but ironically they fit me perfectly! Nice and snug just the way I like it!They are also longer than normal mitts with a great extended cuff. These are considered "arm/elbow length mitts". Even though that was one of the features that attracted me to this pattern, I did shorten mine by one repeat.

Yarn & Cost: The Cascade 220 wool has been sitting in my stash for a couple of years just waiting to come to life!! :o)

I used 2 balls with the yarn held double for thickness, knitting them 2 at 1 time of course! ;o)
This is the very bright Christmas Red in #8895. It has been hard to snap this bright color without my camera freakin' out on capturing the true color (as you may have already noticed). Above is the correct color of red on the mitts.

Time: This was one of those projects I just couldn't put down! :o)
I started them on a Sunday and rushed home each evening after work to knit on them a couple of hours finishing by that Thursday night. I so enjoyed working on them!

Needles: I used my Harmony #8 on the entire mittens on a 47" cord. I truly only needed to be on a 40" cord for the magic looping.

What I learned: This project was not a difficult one, but challenging enough to keep me interested! I enjoyed making the horseshoe cables. I did punk out and used my cable needle ;op But will try and push myself next time to cable without one again so I can sharpen that technique.

I really love only gusset thumbs and was very happy to see that was written in this pattern. I debated about going one needle down on the thumbs but ripped back keeping with the same needle size as it didn't look good to me.

Modifications: There were only a couple of things I modified, and I already mentioned the main one which was to eliminate one of the cable repeats.

I did this by skipping rows 34-38, knitting a regular row before going onto R39 then knitted another regular row by continuing with R40.

Because of my little adjustment I also skipped rows 44-46 which meant that one set of increases for the thumb gusset didn't occur. And I was fine with that just making note of my stitch count on the thumb gusset instructions (picked up a total of 5 sts).

These are totally not blocked yet and plan to dunk them this week (when it warms back up again a bit), since I have already spilled white chocolate coco and apple chi tea on them! ;op

I will also say be sure to knit tight your SSKs and really pay attention to the instructions between rows 75-82 as you have unknit stitches to be moved as the 1st stitch.

Verdict: I highly recommend this pattern!! As I mentioned before it was so well written and for your first pair of mitts (as these were mine) this would be a true thumbs up! They also would make a great pair of fingerless mitts too!

And right now all across the nation we are experiencing a change!

A need to be moving forward together!

Well I haven't spoken to y'all since last year!! :o)

And I trust 2009 has been treating you well thus far!

Been seeing the whirlwind of everyone's "new year posts" and have enjoyed reading/scanning thru them ;op
Now appease me for a moment, as I still have to document highlights (= not all of them) of my Knit Reflections from this past year and want to share them now as my 2008 Knit Year in Review

I ended up getting Dye-Virgintized

And had a great learning experience on dyeing my own yarn!! Hopefully, I will knit with it this new year Haha!

Then I truly started knitting fearlessly!!

Hemlock really changed it for me, and opened up a new level of getting beyond what was my "safe knitting".

I took my very 1st knit retreat to Purl Jam over the summer! And met some really great people!! Shortly afterwards I exercised my needles on making more Socks

And then went into a knitting comatose participating in Ravelympics! Haha!My Indigo Ripple Skirt is one of my favorite knits from the year....okay who am I kidding it is THE one! ;o)

But I so love my malabrigo loafers, Ponchita, my 4,821 neckwarmers (tee hee), etc. I could keep going! ;op

I never got around to blogging about it but I actually tried out Spinning this past fall!It was definitely an experience and you gotta get the hang of it. Glad that I tried it out and exposed myself to something different!!

Here is the fruit of my labor on my own spindle! ;op

And it hasn't grown either Haha!

Now.....I can firmly say that I am more than willing to kick in the extra dollars in buying all of my fiber already dyed and spun for me! ;op

Buttony Silver "Belle"

"Belle" like Blue Belle (because that is her dominant color)....Silver Belle (because she was a Knitmas project with silver buttons)...has been an interesting journey for me!

And so glad I ended my knitting year with a great sweater!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: You may have seen The Buttony Sweater several times out in blogland, as the design is well liked. I was actually hooked last year when I saw Emily's sweater :o) Ever since then it has always been in the forefront of my mind to make sure I knitted this sweater!

There has been many rumbles & grumbles about this pattern. And they are all warranted!!
The instructions are vague and can literally be cleared up with a couple of concise sentences by the designer.

It is true that if you have never done a sweater before, or at least some type of raglan project then I would not attempt this pattern, because again the directions are truly just a framework.

I really must THANK BrittanyLaine for clearing things up for me, and she hasn't even finished her own sweater yet!! ;op

Check below in the "Modifications" section for all the details on sailing thru this pattern.

Size: I just love raglans. They are seamless (that alone is worth its weight in gold!), knitted from the top down so you can try it on as you go, and you just can't go wrong with the size as it is customized just for you!

Time: It took me about two weeks of peak and valley knitting.
The valley experience came from having to hold out and decipher what the heck I was doing....throwing out e-mail/ravelry lifelines and all! Haha!
And the peak knitting occurred during my Christmas holiday vacation time as I was clicking away non-stop!

Needles: US10 for the body & US8 for the ribbing both Denise & Harmonies (used for magic looping sleeves). I can't stand MLing on Denise needles.

Yarn: 3 balls of Malabrigo in Purple Mystery that I received in my last malabrigo swap from Lori (1KnuttyKnitter). Thanks again!! :o) And this is all I had left after the sweater was completed. Thank goodness I decided on the 3/4 sleeves!! ;op

I had seen this colorway before as I had ordered it awhile back thinking I was going to get purple yarn...well it is a mystery alright! Haha! As it can't decide if it wants to be blue or purple!!

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you and it is soooo hard to photograph the true color...I still don't think any of these pics in this post truly capture it (probably the first couple of pics ring true to color). However, as I mentioned in the beginning the dominant color is really blue, and it has grown on me. Not my norm but I like it now, as it is nice to have something different!

I am concerned about the 'Fuzz Factor' of the malabrigo and will make note in slowing down on the garments in this yarn (keeping it to just small accessories). As I've only worn this sweater twice and it is already getting the "felted" look...pooh

Cost: Since the yarn was gifted in a swap then it came at a great deal! As well as the buttons!
I just love w.al-mart buttons!! And will be so sad when their fabric/craft section shuts down completely here..sigh.

You all helped me with my selection and it was a great choice! :o) All 9 of them only costed $3.50. Yah!

What I learned: Believe it or not this truly was my 1st sweater!! I have done other garments before such as a vest, shrugs, and even the anthropologie capelet (thank goodness or I would have been dead in the water with this pattern!). But never a true sweater!! And I think it was a great first go at it!

It was nice to be challenged in knowing when something is not right/clear in the pattern, and make the necessary adjustments. Lets me know I am growing a smidge as a knitter ;o)

Towards the end of knitting "Belle" I contemplated adding a grosgain ribbon on for an extra touch, but in the end decided not to go thru the unnecessary trouble. However, I did discover some cool links I wanted to share just for general knitting edification :o)

Hey! You never know who might be interested, and I may need to come back to this one day too!

Modifications: Okay...this is where you need to grab a tall cold glass of sweet tea (hey I live in the south!) ;op and get comfy.

Here we go on clearing up a few things in the pattern that should help you in making this sweater:

*Most raglan patterns read as having a [border/left panel/sleeve/back/sleeve/right panel/border] for the setup row when you are placing your markers in between all of your stitches. However, this pattern "builds in" the left panel (Row 7) as you go and so readers may get confused (I surely did!!) as to why you are increasing right after the border...in this case that is correct!! And the stitchmarker moves out to accommodate for those increases. Just be consistent in making the same 6 garter stitches for your border on both sides!

*Row 9 (the increases) should read for clarification: Slip 1, K to within 1 stitch before marker, M1, K1, pm, K1, M1 *repeat to end*

*After you continue increasing until the sweater fits around the chest and under arms (you must try it on consistently for the right fit!!) the pattern should have then prepared you to "divide for the sleeves" by simply knitting the front panel then transferring the 1st sleeve stitches onto holders/cord and continue knitting onto back (by joining the yarn to the section), then place the 2nd sleeve onto holders/cords continuing to knit the next panel.

My modifications:
Like so many others on Ravelry, I started my sweater with Taniaho's mods on:

~ Wanting a higher neckline and only CO 82 divided as following - 6 rib + 10 sleeve + 26 back + 10 sleeve + 24 front + 6 rib (remember the other front is 'built in').

~ I also slipped the 1st stitch purlwise for a clean edge

~ My increases were done by doing MLL and MLR

I loved how they turned out!

~ I picked up several extra stitches for under the armholes (10 to be exact).

~ And here are my notes on the stitch count for my armholes: Started with 44 sts, picked up 10 sts (54 sts), immediately decreased back down to 44 sts. Then knitted for about an inch or so evenly before starting decreases ever 8 rows per instructions until I reached 34 sts

~ Length of sleeves were shortened to 3/4 length since I did not have enough yarn for full length.

~ Because I did not continue increasing for the 'left panel' in beginning (like you are suppose to do!) but then picked it up much later on I had a "curve" effect at the top of the sweater (and it kind of resembles a kimono collar)

~ The length of my sweater only warranted 9 buttons rather than 12 called for in the pattern. I also did not place mine too close to the edge and did my buttonholes as: "K2, YO, K2tog, K2" instead.

~ I only did 8 rows of 2x2 ribbing for the body/sleeves along with the stretchy BO.

~ Sprayed block "Belle" for fear of stretching it out and know that over time with wear she will relax on her own.

My recommendations:
If you actually do the increases correctly (as I clarified above) then you will not have that kimono collar curve effect that I did. If that is the case, I would recommend to make a buttonhole at the very beginning, instead of after you have already knitted the instructed ten rows so you won't have a small "flap" at the top.

Waist shaping - I didn't do any since my body type is an apple=buddha belly ;op so I needed the extra room, rather than incorporating waist decreases. If you actually have a waist (unlike me) then I highly recommend it for this sweater since it is basically a "box" pattern.

Armhole decreases - please learn from me ;op I did mine immediately in one round (like on mitt thumbs) however if you do it that way you get a "puff sleeve" result (I have it on this sweater but barely noticeable). However, it is recommended (by my Purl friend Heather!) to decrease directly under the arm over a series of rounds (i.e. since I had 10 extra sts picked up, then decrease two a row for 5 rounds).

I think that about does it on my notes for this project. Hope it helps those who want to do it.

Verdict: Don't let my lengthy notes fool you. This is really an easy and fast sweater knit! I just love all the buttons running down my chest

and you can jazz it up a bit too! :o)

Snuggly (almost silent) Sunday VIII

It has been a cool minute since I've shared what is going on while "in progress" and flash some yarn p0rn your way too! :o)

My latest knit "in production" is the Buttony Sweater (btw - I love my new stitchmarkers)

this project actually kept me busy and made an experience much less excruciating during my wonderful f.o.u.r. hour P.rayer for J.udgement driving class *tight grin* (yes I got a ticket..and it wasn't even for speeding!!) Ugh!

I had a bumpy start with the vague raglan directions on the left panel, and really not sure how this thing will "fit" as I left it as a 'design element' (yeah I was lazy) Haha! So.......we will see LOL

But in the meantime, it is growing and ready for me to divide for the sleeves, where I will find out the "real" truth on if it will workout!! *cross your fingers for me*

This morning I swatched for a very long awaited project

...like I coveted on my knit pal Turtlegirl spring of last year
...like I bought the book only for this pattern
...like I purchased all 8 hanks of the yarn just for this project way back in May of this year (yes, 7 months ago)

THAT is how long awaited this project has been!!!

Since I have overloaded you all with Noro figured it was time to switch off with my 2nd love Malabrigo!! LOLI just LURVE Stonechat!!! As you all already know crimson and chocolate is one of my favorite color combos!!

Originally I really wanted this shrug to be in Velvet Grape (my other fav malabrigo color), but once I discovered Stonechat some time ago, it was then I knew it had to be in this colorway instead!

Speaking about projects (and yummy malabrigo)! On my buttony sweater I am going to need....well buttons! :oD (gotta love w.al-m.art)Tell me which ones do you favor with this color? The silver ones on the left or gold ones on the right?? Remember there will be 12 of these running down my chest! Haha!

Is exactly how I felt on last Saturday!!

My awesome knit/crochet group, Charlotte Purls, surprised me during our annual holiday luncheon!!

With a fabulous basket to show their appreciation of being the "organizer" of the group

It was so unexpected and felt SO good! :o)

They really floored me with their very very very generous giftA gift certificate to a local spa here (much needed paraffin pedicure here I come!!!) AND a v.isa gift card (already started getting some goodies) too!

The card read, "To Stacey - Thank you for all you do! With much love, from your Purls"

Along with some of my favorite treats of gum and a bag of chocolate caramels (which is all gone!!)

And one of the Purls, Heather, gave me some BEAUTIFUL handmade stitchmarkers out of genuine Swarovski crystals!!! *gasp*

I already have a new project on the needles with my fab new knit jewelry!! (WIP/FO pic to come soon...)

I really was overwhelmed with their thoughtfulness and being so kind during these crazy times!!

Speedy Detective

So I've been kinda busy and thangs, along with having no blogging energyBut I have been knitting and still reading other blogs while staying in the knitting spirit and all!

I did finish up a really cute hat last week and wanted to show y'all sooner but it was either dark outside, no one around to take pics of me, or the weather just dreary. So I had to make doand yep resorted to taking the pictures myself in the car! Haha!

Pattern: Lady Detective Hat by Tracey Ullman and Mel Clark published in the Knit 2 Together book.

I just love this book! There are SO many tags in my copy that it is looking a bit crazy!! The book was ridiculously cheap and I originally only bought it for one particular pattern that I just had to have, and yet to knit up. ;op

This is the 1st pattern out of the book I've made and I really loved doing it! Such an easy one and what another chic accessory!

Size: There really is only one size indicated in the pattern, and in reading some other knitter notes on Ravelry there were a few who had to go back and do alterations to make it bigger.

When I first started knitting up on this hat I was very concerned that it would be too small as well.

You begin this project from the crown and knit it down. It was looking really tight to me, but my knitting Purl friends kept encouraging me (thank you!!) to keep at it and that it would turn out to fit just right!!! :o)

Time: I started at the end of November wanting it to be another NOROvember project, and I will still count it as one! But once I realized I wouldn't get it done by the end of the month I didn't press myself on it anymore.

This is another fast knit (can do in about 1-2 days), even though the stitch pattern is a PITA (as others expressed in their Ravelry notes, and I absolutely agree!! )But I find it intriguing that the stitch pattern looks crocheted! :o) And it actually would have been much faster crocheted too! Haha!

Needles: I used US 10.5 and went down only 1/2 the recommended size, b/c I always need to go down at least one size in general with my knitting, but knew it was important to try and maintain the "big" look.

I think I used a 32" cord, and really should have used a 40" for MLing as some of my stitches in the back look slightly laddered, but thank goodness the variegation and stitch pattern hides it.

I also used another cable to do a "provisional hold" on my stitches right before increasing for the brim. I did this so when I would need to come back to BO them off together I could do it without having to go back and painfully pick them upCan you see the extra cord (with the end caps) placing my stitches on hold?? It worked out beautifully!!

There is truly something to be said about reading ahead in a pattern and thinking through it!!

Yarn: Okay I am still on my Noro binge! :oDI never knitted with Noro Iro and it was divine!! Always had my eyes on this Noro line too and finally found a project that would justify the cost.

The colors are simply gorgeous to me as the purple drew me in from the start!! It also has swirls of burgundy, gold, black, and green.

This is colorway #57, and if you haven't tried Iro you must!! I believe this is my favorite Noro line to date!!

I only used 1.25 on the hat and have plenty leftover for a matching neckwarmer! ;op

Cost: As I mentioned above I really had to justify the cost on making a project with this yarn, as it is typically $20 a hank. And also knew it would need to be a small 1-2 skein project! LOL

So when I saw it for 40% off online back in March I jumped on it!! I spent only $16 per hank.

I agree with others that it bites big time you only need about .25 more of the 2nd hank to finish off the hat!! Sigh....so this really is not a 1 skein project with the Iro. Be on the lookout for my matching neckwarmer Haha!

I got the buckle back in May when I went to ATL and met Adrienne for the first time! It was $3.00 and I knew then I was getting it for this project. At first I couldn't decided on the black or brown but you can see which one I settled on. :o)

What I learned: The Better Bucket Hat really prepared me for this knit, so if I had not done this pattern prior to that project I would have been a little bit up in arms.

But since I was seasoned in knitting bucket hats this one was smooth sailing.

The Better Bucket Hat was also knitted from the bottom up and in doing Lady Detective hat I realized how much I really like knitting hats from the top down! This was my 1st one and it was a breeze.

Modifications: None really other than using an extra cord mentioned above for the "provisional hold". Indeed one smart move!

I did slightly block it by placing it on a tupperware bowl that is shaped like a bucket and lightly sprayed it with water letting it dry over night. That was was it!

Verdict: The morning I wore my new hat into work I was walking on the street and the 1st person who saw me (a lady of course) said, "I love your hat!" And I said, "I do too! I made it!!" and she exclaimed back, "OOOO that is great! It is even more super cute!!" :oD

That made me feel all warm and fuzzy! :o) Haha!

Now....what I do not recommend is taking all of your F.O. pics

while zoomin' along in morning rush hour traffic ;op

My Ondine Sleeves

I have always wanted to have a knitting accessory that deviated from the normAnd would get a second glance when worn as a laid back flare of style.

Pattern: So I went on a Ravelry hunt for arm warmers that would meet my desires. And the Ondine: Sleeves for a Mermaid were perfect!

It is always interesting to discover the background on why some of the designers name their patterns.

As the pattern indicates Ondine is a land bound water nymph, and was the source of the Little Mermaid folk tales and is also the inspiration for these fish tailed sleeves used as arm warmers.

I luv this pattern! It was well written and easy to follow.

Size/Needles/Time: The pattern gave several sizes and great notes on how to measure your arms for the appropriate size. I started out making the small, but stopped my increases at the x-small size.As usually I knitted these two at a time and used my Harmonies in US7 and US6 on a 40" cord. The pattern recommends a US8, but I went down a size since I know my stitches can be loose, but now looking back it wouldn't have hurt to use US6 for the body.

It took me about a week from start to finish, and that was even with me having realized I messed up the flow of one of the cuffs.

Yarn/Cost: I am sure you all figured out that I used NORO! :o) This is the Silk Garden line in colorway 213The yarn was gifted to me almost a year ago by A Knitter in Queens! Who actually gave me 7 balls in total from a 'give thanks' contest that she did last year. Interesting how things come back full circle :o)

This time I actually tried to tame the stripping that Noro is known for, but as you all may also already know Noro is unpredictable. Afterwhile I just let it flow and stopped focusing on it.

About 2.5 balls of yarn was actually used, and as always I go into this silent panic along the way thinking I will not have enough to finish but always do!

What I learned: That I love these cuffs!! :o)

I liked that they were not the "glove" type arm warmers, as one of my criteria was to have my hands "free". The cuffs are just so flirty and I just love that!!

You know I already mentioned how well written this pattern was so there really wasn't any knitting pains or discoveries this time around.

I will say since I have never knitted a full-blown sweater with sleeves before, that this project was a great prelude to how they should flow in terms of increases, again pretty simple.

Modifications: Not much as stated earlier I started out doing the small size, but stopped after 6 repeats of increases which ended up being the x-small size so I am not really sure if that is considered a true mod ;o) Other than that I knitted according to pattern.

I did re-adjust where my increases/seam would be placed as I wanted them to line up where I originally joined the yarn for the cuffs (underneath the arm).

I will say that after only wearing them for a short time they started to sag. Can you see?So I will need to add some elastic to the upper arm to keep them from inching down. And as far as the yarn relaxing not sure what to do about that, as I would fear to put them in the dryer for a spin and then end up with finger warmers LOL

Verdict: I've always wanted my own knitted “tattoo” arm warmers, and now I made them! Yay!

I actually think of them as my arm "stockings" Haha! And like that they offer variety in my wardrobe, at the same time showing off my knitting (kinda like a walking billboard). These are great arm enhancements!! :o)

Hugs on my Hands

That is the meaning and the name of the fingerless mitts I made called Kolenyas!

I believe I like the thought of hugs on my hands better! Haha!

For NOROvember I knew immediately that I would be making a pair of Kolenyas as I've been eyeing them for a very long time now.

Not only did I make one pair, but 2!! They really are fun and easy to make, so you end up just wanting to make more of them :o)

Pattern: You can locate the Kolenyas pattern HERE, which was designed by Carola Haglund about two years ago.

Size: On the 1st pair I made the "one size fits all" according to the pattern. Which I ended up not liking, as everyone's hands are just not the same size.

Despite this pattern being designed by a woman, I really think the original sizing is more for larger hands, or more fitting for a man. As the blue pair really came out loose to me.

Don't get me wrong... they indeed serve their purpose (as I wore them several times...while knitting, around the office, and avoiding cold steering wheels..before gifting them away to Janet! Haha) all while keeping me warm! ;op

I really like for fingerless mitts to hug me!

So the second pair I adjusted to be more of a custom fit for my smaller hands. Much better!!

Time: I knitted these up 2-at-1 time As I do with anything that is simple like this project to avoid the second syndrome and to plain just get it over with!

This project can be (and was) done within 24 hours! Really fast!

Needles: Well with the 1st pair I used US3s for the ribbing and 4s for the body, and for the 2nd pair I stayed on US3s the entire time both done on 40" cords.

Yarn: NORO of course! :oD And as much as I love NORO I never worked with Kureyon before, ooh wait that is not true...my 1st experience with Noro was with Big Kureyon!!

So this was my 1st time working with the baby Kureyon :o) Boy Oh Boy this stuff is rough!!

And I forgot how easily it breaks ...if you knit too tight! ;o) Afterall it is 100% wool!!

But all worth it in the end!

You only need 1 skein (really less than) to work these mitts up!

If you are really anal about the stripes needing to match, then you would need two skeins so that you can do some operating on them.

Cost: The blue pair was yarn that was gifted to me by Robin! Thanks Gurl!!

And the pink/brown pair I picked up during my last NCEE field trip earlier this month for only $7 bucks as we got a discount for coming as a group!

You can't beat that price for a pair of mitts, that would have cost more 'store bought' and wouldn't keep you anywhere near half way warm!!

What I learned: Overall, this was an easy peasy knit!

However, I did learn to do a gusset thumb, rather then just using waste yarn and keep knitting in a circle around it, only to come back to unravel later (like on my Fetchings project).

This pattern calls for you to do continual increases on both sides to make room for the thumb, and that was my first time doing that. I like that method much better!

Modifications: They say the second time around is better. So I definitely made some changes for the other pair.

First off, on both pairs I nixed the finger dividers, as I knew I wouldn't like that on my hands.

Below is the laundry list for the more snug/hug pair I made for my hands:
~ Still CO 30 sts, and extended ribbing for 20 rounds
~ Did NO increasing!
~ Knit 7 rounds
~ On thumb gusset only increased to 8 sts in btwn sm.
~ Did NOT cast-on additional stitches just joined in rounds for a total of 29sts
~ Knit 11 rounds
~ No decreasing at end of mitt
~ 4 rounds of 1x1 ribbing before BO
~ Thumb - PU 4 sts, K1 even round, then did decrease round of (K2, K2tog = total of 9sts - however ended up kind of tight on my thumb! So next time I would increase thumb by picking up more stitches and use stretchy BO - fyi).
~ Then knitted 4 even rounds before binding off on thumb.

Verdict: If you are looking for a gift that is quick, easy, and cheap then you found it!! Definitely could crank out a ton of these without getting bored! Especially with the fun color changes of the magnificent NORO! :o)

TO STAY WARM!!!

right now on this lovely sunny mid-day it is 42 degrees here, but feels like 35 degrees...according to weather.com (especially with that whippin' wind whistlin outside my window !)...for us here in the south that is cold! Haha! :oD

So I've been peepin out my favorite place (tar.jay) and all of their latest "knit/crochet" items to keep folks warmThose are definitely cute! But will they really keep me warm? Ha!

And y'all know I got a thang for fingerless gloves and spotted these hanging aroundI swear it almost looks like someone hand knitted them!! *pfft* Acrylic! I need 100% wool on my hands for warmth please!

This time of the year always makes me wonder if it is just easier, cheaper, and much faster just to buy this stuff straight off the racks......and the answer typically is yes for me!

Unless you want something unique...one of a kind...just for you! Then it's all worth it baby!!I had not forgotten (okay...almost tee hee) that this is the season for NOROvember!!!!!

I cranked those puppies out pretty quickly (2 at a time of course!) and will do it F.O. justice soon, as I plan to knit up another pair for me this time!
Love those colors!! And I am not even a pink gurl! I believe the chocolate and black help influence me! ;o)

Figured since I am jazzin' things up around my way with colors and all I would try black on my fingernails too! ;op Very different for me as I normally stick to light colors or french. Me likey! I received more compliments about my nails the last 2 days then I ever have before! Haha!

And what I am holding is my newest perfume scent that I finally settled on (it takes me forever to commit to a smell on my body) Diamonds by Armani...I luv Armani and the men scent version of this is even better!! Gotta get me a man of mine (A.S.A.P.) to wear that so I can smell it all the time on him ;op

*clears throat*

Back to the regular scheduled blog post! Haha!

Since there is 9 more days left in the month and some holiday vacay time thrown in there too, I am hoping I can crank out a few more NORO projects since I have the yarn/patterns all lined up and waiting for me...we will see

This past weekend was jammed pack!! I had my 2 "bestest" blog buddies actually come visit me!! Ms. Adrienne & Patrice!! :o)

On top of that we had our NCEE (N.C. Ebony Elite) Yarnsploration too!

So it was a major weekend! And SO much fun!! But I am still tired so you all will have to view what a great time I had on my slide show :o)

History has been made and I am SO glad I was a WITNESS to Democracy prior to anyone even knowing to trust him or not!!!**

that is what one of my friends said I was over the weekendand I must agree!

My girlfriend invited me for a quick road trip to hear O.bama with another friend and of course got lost in the great metropolis of R.ock Hill, SC Haha! :op But we finally got there and waited for B.arack to take the stage.

And the crowd went wild!

Of course I pulled out my digi cam along with the other hundreds of people and took a ton of pics hoping some will come out half way decent! Haha! :op

I am vertically challenged (and there was not one tall person around me!) so please excuse all the heads and there was one particular man's hand I wanted to chop off while I was there! Ugh!

This was actually the first presidential candidate rally I had ever attended, or for that matter wanted to attend. Don't get me wrong I have always exercised my right to vote but never jumped at going to hear a candidate at a rally until now.

B.arack of course spoke about all of the hot topics like the other candidates: health care, education, w.ar, etc. Then I remembered "Ooh! I have a video option on my camera!" Haha!

Of course, I missed all of his good "tag" lines and very good talking points. Dangnabit!

In my few video clips I got one really good one of him talking about education, parents, and us truly being the government...but of course you.tube would not let me upload as it is over the size limit.

But here is a short one of him talking about what others have seen his first entitled book

Well there I was experiencing a moment of history and glad I took the opportunity to witness democracy!!

They know more about the issues than most adults!!

Ooh this day ended very well with a great TREAT!! :o)

I participated in the fourth round of the Malabrigo Swap and my spoiler 1KnuttyKnitter made sure I got my maaaaaaaaal treats on the 31st!!! Yay! It was a very nice mail day to end this very long week!

First the goodies!
Since it has been getting nippy around here I've taken to drinking tea a lot lately, and peppermint being one of them which is caffeine free and zero calories!! :o) Perfect for the office to stay warm!

I also received my sugar free fav gum (that I am chewing on now! Haha), some great purple & red sticky notes (I can never get enough of these!), a coconut yankee candle car air freshener!!!! Yay!!! Did not know they made this at all (a new product!), and I cannot wait to pop this in my crimson mobile!! :o)

Did you check out my AWESOME elephant candle holder?!?!? That is so unique for me as I don't have one like that at all!!! I luv it!

Then inside the cutest pumpkin basket I received the newest Soak which is scent free! And my especially made for me purple and red stitch markers!! :o)Reminds me of bellydancing jewelry. Me likey!

And I haven't even talked about the yarn yet!!

Which I received 3 Purple Mystery in worsted weight, and 1 Torero in lace weight!!! Woot! Woot!! :oD 1KnuttyKnitter was very generous with the fiber!

Well I think that is enough exclamation points in one post LOL ;op

My So Called Torero

This past weekend the autumn season made itself known here in the Queen City!

I have been itching to do some "comfort" knitting and a quick project to assist in keeping my mojo going too.

I immediately CO for my "stand by" fall/winter projectYou know it! A neckwarmer!!! :oD

Pattern: I finally seized the opportunity to make the ever so popular My So Called Scarf; that currently shows 3,297 projects done in Ravelry! Which now includes mine :o)

So why not join the bandwagon as there are another 3,603 more who "want" to knit it! Haha!

Time: I started this on a Sunday night right after I purchased my new winter jacket at my new favorite shopping place where you can dress for less! ;op

It gives my jacket that "pop" of color I was looking for and the granite toggle button goes perfect with it too!!

And I finished it by Tuesday while waiting a full hour in line to vote! ;o)
A total of two days (or less) from alpha to omega.

Size: Until the yarn ran out!

Needles: Finally resurrected my Denise needles! As I purposely forced myself to finish a charity hat that was OTN since last year, so I can free them up for this project! It felt good to put those needles back into action again Haha!

I used US11 size tips.

Yarn & Cost: I combined this section together this time because it really goes mano y mano!

I received this yarn back in May during the Malabrigo Swap II from Kara, and I was so elated with the package!! I had been on a very long search to find the 'truest valentine' red in Malabrigo and it comes by the name of Torero!

This is the super bulky! And 65 yards of YUMMINESS! As you can see this yarn has a lot of thin/thick variation to it and for this pattern/project it did not bother me at all, but in fact kept me interested in all of its 100% merino softness!

Since I received the yarn as a gift in a swap it cost me nothing, but I did spend $5 on the JHB button (#80272) which had been marinating in my stash for quite some time, that I can't even remember where I picked it up from along the way.

What I learned: Well there are a lot of people out there who get confused by just reading this two line pattern...me included!! So a video helped bring clarity to how it should go!

I really liked this particular one I linked as it is waaay better in terms of audio and visual (clear picture), as well it shows you an alternative for R1 in doing the YO instead (which is what I adopted), not to mention the video is short and sweet!

Modifications: As you can see I made mine into a neckwarmer! And only CO 22 sts to achieve the shorter width. I also mentioned above how I used YO in the pattern as the substitute in R1.

No buttonhole was needed since the pattern offers openess in the knitting, along with the thick/thin yarn so I can just slip my toggle button right through!
Plus it makes it easy for me not to have to reset the button in the future if my neckwarmer becomes too loose! Win-Win!!

Verdict: LURVE everything about it!! The quick and easy to remember pattern, the yarn, the COLOR...the COLOR, the thickness, the color! :o)

I LURVE me some Charlotte Yarn!

Just when I didn't think my most favoritest (yes I made that up!) local yarn shop couldn't get anymore favoritest it does!!

This weekend was their first weekend in the new place and I lurve it!! :o)

AAh I love the colors (eggplant purple my fav!!), the openness, the windows, the hardwood floors! Yep! It has good vibes over there and great people! Here is the new place (view slideshow):

And I got me some fibers while there today too!

My very sweet co-workers from my old job gave me a gift certificate to my most favoritest yarn shop!! :o)

I guess me talking about Charlotte Yarn 3,902,816 times gave them a clue what I would really enjoy! :op THANK YOU Sarah, Kehler, and Amy for the great gift!!!

I finally used it on some yummy Fleece Artist in Rainforest and Amythest....BEAU.TI.FUL!!
I have been coveting this yarn for a long time, but didn't want to make the commitment quite yet. Gotta love gift certificates! :o)

So I changed my mind and the Rainforest is going to become my Alhambra scarf now! ;op

Okay off to chase down my knitting mojo again!!!

Remember when this little guy was helping me knit this project up last summer (July 07 to be exact ;op)?? Well it was finally completed this summer and gifted in time to mail out to one of my very close friends for her birthday! She is also a knitter and crocheter herself, so it was nice to know she would so "get" what it took to make her present! :o) Thanks for remembering to send me a pic gurl!!

Yes yes yes...I know 'tis not the season right now! It is more like the time for fingerless gloves and sweater knitting. ;op

Despite the yo-yo weather here lately, this past weekend was bright, sunny and really nice!

So come along for the blog ride and close out my '08 summer projects with me :o)

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: The Lillian Tank by Delicious Stitches who is a young and super talented lady! I discovered her last year blog hopping and really like her designs whenever she pops up on the scene.

Size: Medium, Bust 36-38

Time: Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell...forever Haha!

As I mentioned, this project was started last summer and then put in hibernation until this spring. Finally getting the gumption to squeak it out and in the mail for one of my besties birthday in August :o) Her tank is also considered a PIF commitment too (2 out of 3 now)!

And in the process of knitting the 1st tank I knew I wanted one for myself too

Hence Deuce Deuce! :o)

This truly is not a long knit project at all (my motivation was just non-existent on this one for some reason). It does keep you interested with the lace and minimal stockinette.

Needles: On the 1st tank I used US5 & US6 needles, and then on 2nd tank I used US4 & US5 for a tighter stitch since I am a loose knitter.

Yarn: On the white tank it is in the recommended yarn TLC Cotton Plus, and this was my first time using that particular yarn and knitting in all white!

I liked the idea of having a girly white tank top. The TLC Cotton Plus is cost effective and easy enough to knit with; not to mention the throw in the washer and dryer aspect gets a thumbs up from me!!

The second tank is made with Lion Brand Cotton Ease, and this was also my first time knitting with this yarn and liked it more than the TLC as it doesn't have that "sticky" feel to it.

Cost: Both projects only took 2.5 hanks of yarn, not much at all!!

And all yarn was bought on sale at the good ole box store AC M.oore :o) So each top was about $12 each!

What I learned: Even though I didn't finish this project until much much later and many many projects later, this was actually my first taste in lace knitting. And it was very interesting! :o) All lace is YOs and K2togs that makes very pretty things! Neat!

So glad I picked a project with aran weight yarn to try out lace.

This was also my first stab at truly picking up stitches for a neckline (prior to all the other F.O.s that came after this debut! Haha), hence why I had severe procrastination syndrome on this project. And my Knitter Anxiety (KA) had kicked in a major way!!

I did discover a neat little trick to close "the gap" in corners of my knitting of socks or necklines (that I obviously forgot to do on my 2nd tank since I had already ripped out my neckline twice, so the trick ended up being an afterthought).

When you come to the gap, simply pick up only the left leg of the 'V' and then the right leg of the other 'V' and knit them together. Viola it is gone!

Modifications: After knitting the first tank I discovered that there were a few changes I wanted to make.

On both tanks I shortened it by one lace repeat (3 total) as I didn't want it very long in length.

But on the second production of this tank I shortened the straps (only 27 rows) and chest area (only 8 rows in front and 43 in back) to have the ribbing area come directly under my bust versus it hanging so low like it did on the white version (also think the back hangs pretty low too)

With the ribbing I went down one needle size and on the armholes only did 4 rounds, but did the recommended 5 rounds for the neckline before binding off.

I could have (and should have) went down to the small size, but was concerned about having a too snug fit. Looking back now the small size would have worked out just fine.

Verdict: A good pattern to venture out in garments, the only thing to be cautious of is that it knits from the bottom up so fitting can be hard to determine. Now that I've knitted a few garments, I truly don't care for bottom up patterns.

Even though I did this project twice (which rarely happens unless it is something short and quick) I honestly was not all that crazy about this tank top. It is not one of my favorite items and don't think I will be rushing to wear it either. I was way more excited about doing it on the front end then I am about the actual product...oh well.

I did have a fun time taking pics of it to close out my summer projects!I luv putting my very own "Nigel" (for those who watch A.N.T.M.) to work in doing my own "America's Next Top Knitter" photo shoot! ;op She is so good to put up with me! Haha!

Blogstalking XVI: Where is the Gas?!?

Some of you may not even realize what has been going on over here in the southeast corner of the U.S. since I.ke hit about two weeks ago.

People went into a frenzy here about getting gas and how our supply would be effected by this hurricane...weeeeeell it sure was by US!!!

TWO weeks ago we have had our gas almost close to being rationed out to us and lots of price gouging at the pump!!

And I maintain that our local community (for the most part) caused this large imbalance of supply and demand. Did it to ourselves!! Shish.....

The pic above was the line I waited in on Saturday to get gas...not bad at all considering what I have seen all across town! Only waited a smooth 15-20 minutes for it, and that was short!!

Yes folks have even been getting indignant in some cases over getting gas, hence the blue suits coming out to regulate at the pump lines!

And others have been severely impacted by this self-imposed gas shortage by not being able to get to work, and having a terrible domino affect on them maintaining their livelihood.

Folks were even being pushed into the gas station b/c they ran out while waiting!!
Thank goodness I have had the foresight and resources not to wait that long.

Someone asked me a few blog posts ago about the gas situation here and how much we were paying since they have been hearing about it on national newsThat is pretty good here, as anywhere at any moment you could be paying as much as $4.19 for the lowest grade. And the higher octane for the luxury cars are the most priceless commodity.

I hear that Atlanta and Nashville are having the same gas issues too.

Catching Up

Quite a few things have been "on hold" and I have been trying to catch up in all things going on in my life right now.

This also includes my blog reads. It is very hard for me to push the "mark all as read" button, but I do put it in use from time to time :o)
However, I refrained from using it this time, and do believe I am sufficiently all caught up now.

Since I am really not knitting at the moment. I did make a decision on which yarn I queryed you all about a few months ago for the Alhambra ScarfThat is the beautiful Malabrigo lace in Applewood. Really warm but sweet color!

It really would be great for fall! Now...just a matter of when I will CO for this project! ;op Minor details Huh? Haha!

Blogstalking XV: On Being a Budgetnista

Weeeeeeeell I never intended to be so silent this long,
but just know life has been really busy for me and my blogging mojo is still very very weak. As it already took every ounce of me to get this post together! ;o)
Thought my blog makeover would help me a bit...but.....

So on top of all of this I have been very very bad......because at the beginning of this year I received a book to review and have yet to do it!! However, I have looked thru it and have already gleaned quite a few tips, and some of the guide charts to be helpful! I will definitely come back to give its proper due!! In the meantime, you can visit her fabulous blog here!

I brought this book up to say with our economy in the toilet and the need to stretch our dollars a little longer it is right on time!!

I have always been big on finding a deal when shopping for clothes, but lately good finds have been wonderful gold mines for me!!

Here is what I have been into lately and over the summer time:

Budget (notice I am not saying cheap) shoes. Not one pair is over $15-$20!!!
See my fake L.ouboutin shoes. :o) Tee hee! And I forgot to put my new burgundy T.ahari in the photo which I just got last night for only $30 bucks! They are baaaad.

And I've recently had this thing for bargain purses from T.arget.com (where they are on clearance) this summer

I rocked the heck out of that off white purse for only $8 bucks!! The other ones were only $10!! Y'all know my love for Tarjay ain't going nowhere! In fact, I need to get some stock in that joint!! ;op Haha!

And my most recent frenzy has been getting budget suits from R.oss for my new job!!! Yay!
Getting great bargain prices for a new business wardrobe has been great! I spent anywhere from $20 (yes you read that right) - $40 for an ENTIRE suit!!! Are you kidding me?!?!? You really can dress for less there! Don't sleep on them now!! I also get all my "formal"/cocktail dresses from there too!

Alright...quick fashion question. I just got this suit on clearance and it is off white

Q: So it is almost the official end of summer, but if I put a black or chocolate shirt underneath it could I still wear it after the 21st?? Put your 2 cents in please! :o)

As far as knitting...nothing to report. :o(

I haven't picked up my sticks in about two weeks now...sigh....pray for a knitting revival over here! Haha!

Laborless Weekend

This was a really nice laid back weekend :o)

I got a nice pedicure and my nails polished in a new color,
then had a mini private concert in the comforts of my own living room with Commissioned Live! Haha!

Got some much needed rest by catching up on my sleep. I had major insomnia all last week.
So it felt good to be sleeping beauty over this extra day.

Sunday I went to a fun get together with some of my belly.dancing gurls...see for yourself:

We had a good time dishing dirt and laughing throughout the evening! :oD

I finally watched my netflix DVDs that were sitting on my counter for almost a month! One was good, one was stupid.

Awhile back I took part in the 40% sale on Knit.PicksStocked up on my EZ books, B.ordhi, and sock needles/cables...oh and some extra yarn I needed...ur um wanted.

I finally got off my extended knitting break from Ravelympics and picked up my needles again ;op

However, I had a little trial & error with picking up the neckline of my tank

it ended up puckering out...so I need to find some energy to rip it back out and try again...sigh

Lately, I have been snatching up knit magazines like they are going to sell out!

Grab a Lifeline

Alright a lot of you were amazed at the wonders of a lifeline and inquired how it exactly works.

I actually took it for granted that a lot of people already knew about this trick!

Well this knitting secret power was passed onto me by Turtlegirl some time ago...can't remember when as we sit & knit together from time to time! ;o)

So here I am wanting to ensure I pass on this gem of knowledge to all of you lovelies!!! :oD

(psst...forgive the picture quality, as I didn't think about capturing it until the early morning hours of trying to finish up my Phenomenal Ripple)

1. You need a needle set that has a tiny hole at the cable join (i.e. Denise/Options)

2. You then get your handy dandy dental floss! (tee hee my dentist would be so proud of me! Haha)

Or anything that fits into that hole and thread it thru...tie a knot so it will stay

3. Then you begin knitting that particular row (normally a non-pattern row) and watch it thread itself thru your stitches while knitting!
That is it!!

Hope that helps you in saving any knits in the future....the key is to actually USE IT! LOL

Let me tell ya....this.skirt has a bounce and swing to it that puts a serious sway in my step when I wear it!! This.skirt makes me feel Phenomenal!!!

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: I LURVE LURVE LURVE this skirt!!!

I flagged it immediately when it came out last year in the Interweave Knits Spring 2007 issue.

It is Indigo Ripples Skirt by Kat Coyle and my first Interweave Knit!!

Can you believe out of all the issues that I have horded, not one of the designs ever ended up on my needles? Haha

For some reason I don't keep the "s" in the name of this pattern as it is plural, but as you can see there are definitely many ripples in it ;op

Size: Okay...so here is where a little bit of a discussion begins.

Let me first start off and state that....I have no waist....I have NO HIPS! Haha!! :oD

With that being said I knew I would be working the XS size........

However, on many notes/comments of other completed skirts it was recommended to CO for the size up so it can hang low on your waist. I did that starting out with a small size....I must of had a "senior moment" as I quickly forgot that I don't have any hips! LOL

That step was really not necessary for me and my waist was really loose on me. Thank goodness for drawstrings!!!
I immediately stopped making increase rounds and knitted a size where the stitch count was 20 stitches less than the XS size....so I call mine an XXS ;o)

Time: 17 whole days during the Beijing Summer Olympics baby!!

I got my gold!!!! An opportunity at the podium and my Ravthlete Badge :o)
Ravelympics was sooooo much fun and the best thing ever to kick me in the butt so I would actually do this project!!

Needles: My lovely Harmonies of course!! (my poor Denise tips have not seen the light of day since these beauties came into my life! Haha)

I went down two needles sizes and used a US4 as that is what I could get gauge on, and I wanted it a bit tighter too.

Cords 24" and 32"

Yarn: It was very different and great to finally use Rowan Denim
I featured the yarn here with all the gory details so be sure to click on the link if you would like to learn more about it (can you tell I am tired! lol).

Cost: $5 a ball and I used 8 of them so the grand total for this skirt was $40 bucks.
But I actually purchased 9 balls so I have an orphan over here and will have to figure out what I am going to do with it.

I could have saved $14 bucks as I discovered the fraternal twin to this yarn cheaper here after I had already ordered it....hmph. It is called Den-M-Nit and only $3.25 a ball!

What I learned: That I knew I would love knitted skirts!

This is a great 1st time skirt project for all the skeptics out there!! And it truly compliments ANY unique shape & size woman! Go and see for yourself over on Ravelry!

I honestly did not learn any new techniques on this project, but the Ravelympics made it a great challenge and served its purpose!! Haha! :o)

However, I did want to learn the overcast method in joining new yarn while you knit/weave in the ends at the same time...but I could never get the hang of the pictorial (and tried this one too).
And one of my Purl buddies tried to show me another way, but was quickly forgotten when I tried to do it on my own! Sigh

I need a video of it!!! Maybe I will pick up this technique next time :o)

Modifications: There was an IR Blog KAL that was great and really helped me out on the majority of my notes with this project!!

Also this ended up being perfect timing as there was a Anthropologie Knits IR KAL going on as well!
That was a great forum to chat back and forth with others who already just did it or was doing the skirt at the same time as me. I made fast Ravelry friends over there as the camaraderie was fab!

Okay....I am just going to make a quick 'knit list' of the modifications I made on MY skirt. It is important to understand that I did this based on MY size and MY height so it may not work for you but could be helpful when you get ready to start your skirt.
As these were questions I had during the progress of my ripple.

Drawstring round: Did 3 knit rows instead of 2
Increase rounds: Only did first round of increases and stopped after 14 additional sts (from 156 to 170 sts).
Lace Pattern divisible by: 14 sts...had to decrease back down to 168 for the lace pattern to work.
Check Errata!!
Substitute all "sl1, K2tog, psso" for SSSK (easier/faster)
Round 25: Did M1L instead of M1R
Lace Rows: Only did 36 rounds (should have shorten SS area to lengthen lace a bit)
Bind Off: Did the Stretchy BO as the other one was too tedious to me.
Crocheted Drawstring: Yarn held doubled on 'G' hook

Other notes:

Used 5 balls on the stockinette, 3 balls on lace/binding/drawstring
Pre-wash: 17" Stockinette, 7" Lace, 24" Total skirt
Post-wash: 14" Stockinette, 7" Lace, 21" Total skirt

Need to get some fray check for my woven ends to ensure things stay put.

Verdict: I LURVE LURVE LURVE this skirt! :oD
Not only does it look good, but it feels good on you too!

I highly recommend giving it a try and even in the fun denim yarn too!!

As I said earlier it looks good on any shape woman, and will make those hesitant about doing knitted skirts a believer!

Since I have been traumatized by the cramming in this project (stockinette-ville!) during Ravelympics...I doubt I will do it again but will so cherish mine!
Especially as it wears out more and gets super comfy like your favorite pair of blue jeans!

Final Frantic Stretch!

Some of you have asked me how was I coming along on my Ravelympics skirt. Thanks so much for caring or just being curious! ;o)

Well yesterday during my lunch hour I had a hiccup/trip on the race track!

I was plugging away on Row 8 of my lace section which is supposed to look like this:

But then noticed this one very weird spot: WITW is this?!?! A HOLE!!!!

Apparently I dropped some stitches along the way...I am thinking maybe where my needles were being held together while traveling in my knit bag??? Or possibly dropped a YO and didn't realize it....

Here was my attempt in fixing it, but those K3togs and YO made it hard to patch things up:Ur uh um yeah...it looks like crap!! I can't go out like that! Haha!

I had to RIP back!!! Thank goodness for lifelines!!! Don't ever hate on the dental floss! ;opSo I wasn't too upset as I wasn't that far along......but still!

Weeeeeeell after the emergency fix this treat was DEFINITELY in order!!! Venti!! (I never get that size)Back to sprinting to the finish line frantically!! huff puff huff

So forgive me if I get ghost on ya!! :o) I gotta get my gold!

My Magic Shawl

I have been meaning to post an entry about my latest completed project,
but as you all have probably already detected my blogging mojo is real low right about now.

Well since I wore my newest wardrobe garment all day today I figured it was time.

I like it a lot. It is the perfect casual "ball up and pull out when I need it" shawl ;o)

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: This is the Sunday Market Shawl

And how appropriate that I wore it all day on this fine Sunday in church and while market shopping for this weeks' groceries at my favorite place T.rader J.oes!!

One of my really good girlfriends that goes to church with me loved it, and has already placed in her order! Haha! :o)

Yarn & Cost: This yarn was gifted to me back in February by the sweet Emily! Thanks again!!

It is the O-wool in Balance made out of 50% organic merino and 50% organic cotton.

I had been searching for the perfect project to work with this yarn, and I finally looked in my very overflowing "que" folder in jogging my memory on wanting to do this shawl!! Perfect!

The yarn was very nice to work with, and I was so very pleased to work with a new yarn too!

It is just light enough for the spring/summer seasons but has the merino wool in there to keep me warm.

Needles: I actually went up on needle size than what was recommended for this yarn.

I used my addis US9, and think that was the perfect size for this particular project as I wanted it to be loose but not too loose.

Size: Well it really doesn't matter! I did cast on more stitches (40) than the pattern called for as I wanted it wider.

I do wish it was longer but as mentioned my yarn was gifted to me so I had to work with what I had.

I never did any measurements on this project, as it was a truly carefree "knit as I go" type of process.

After the pea green bath ;op

I was hoping it would grow some....but that was just wishful thinking.

Time: I mainly knitted on this shawl during my work commutes on the bus or during my lunch break. So with not much dedication to the project it took about two weeks.

What I learned: Well....let me just say I was on the short bus (briefly) in trying to figure out how to start this project! LOL

It was so simple I made it hard!!!

Thank goodness NoregretsCoyote was so sweet and kind to walk me step by step on the whole first 4 rows and then it was smooth sailing from there!

You are basically knitting up a 'set up' row (K2, YO) and then it is just plan stockinette stitching from there! So you actually drop the stitches at the very end of the project!!

I had to do a swatch to make sure I knew what I was doing

And I swear it was like MAGIC once I started doing it/dropping the stitches! I was so thrilled!

And it just felt so liberating to purposely "pop pop pop" off those stitches and wiggle them down to make the "ladders" :oD

Thanks Randeep for all of your help in making my knitting "light bulb" go off!

Verdict: I really enjoyed knitting this very simple project. It was just the "zen knitting" I needed, and I plan to do it again as a gift for my friend now. And would love to do it again for myself.

I really like that it's a not too fancy shawl that I can just throw on with anything, and wear it however I want to!

I like to think of it as my very own easy knock off version of the infamous c.lapotis project; because this is as close as I am ever going to get to knitting that project! ;op

Yep that's right I am getting myself ready for the summer Ravelympics!! :oD

3 days until I cast on!!!

I will be in the Synchronized Flirty Skirts & Sock Put events with Team Charlotte Purls and WIPs Wrestling event with Team Charlotte Yarn!! YAY!!

I made sure not to try and put too much on my knitting plate, and thinking that during the 17 days of the summer olympics that this is doable!

The most important thing for me in training is getting my mind right. Whew!

I have been wanting to do my indigo ripple skirt forever! Got the yarn last July! Studied the KAL board, made all the pertinent notes on my pattern, and just for some reason got stuck.....never casted on.

Which is why I signed up for Ravelympics!

And since I am already doing Summer of Socks (S.O.S.) I figured I would throw in a pair halfway thru and do the Anastasia with my new Noro sock yarn! In fact, I will be doing it as a mini KAL with a mini group of great ladies! :o)

Getting a long awaited WIP off my needles wouldn't hurt either. My second Lillian tank (Tangee) is waiting to be seamed and get some ribbed borders on the neckline and armholes (y'all know how much I just love that! Haha). The 1st one I made is in the mail and on the way to the birthday girl; but promise I won't be mad if she doesn't wear it! Haha! Lets just say it was a labor of love ;op Haha!

House of Thuja

I am beginning to get the hang of this thing called sock knitting :o)

~ Project Details ~

Pattern: I wanted my next pair of socks (SOS#2 Yay!) to be something with a simple pattern and quick (read as thicker yarn Haha).

I knew what yarn I wanted to use, and it was just a matter of matching it up with the right pattern.

Since I was using a variegated yarn I really needed something not too busy. So I went to my best pattern research tool (Ravelry of course!) and kept coming across the Thuja pattern in the type of yarn I wanted to put to work. Decision made!

Curiosity finally got to me and I looked up what Thuja means as the pattern designer never mentioned why he selected this name, just why he was motivated to make them.

This is a popular pattern, after all it was on Knitty! Even my knit/e-blog pal Babbling Brook (Stacey) just recently finished her Thuja's too!

Size: The pattern is originally intended to fit a man (9-11), and only "one" size was given. Well we ain't all one size!

Of course I did toe-up

as I love to try on my sock as I go, to reassure myself they are fitting. You know I can't be putting all that work in those tiny little needles in vain! ;o)

I went down from the primary stitch count of 44 to 40 and wish I had decreased a little bit more to 36-38 stitches.

These are truly comfy socks!

I consider them my house socks!!

Time: Not long at all, just shy of a week!

As I mentioned earlier I wanted a break from the smaller needles and thinner sock yarn...for now ;op The worsted weight yarn was perfect!

Also this easy sock project became my commuter knitting which helped me plug away on the foot! Besides I still have yet to make a full ankle sock as well.

Needles: I used my Harmony needles in US4 and then US2.

I coulda (woulda shoulda) went down a needle size on the sock, but I was adamant about wanting to be on bigger needles! ;op

I switched to US2s for the ribbing around the ankle, and then back to the US4s for the bind off.

Again I shoulda BO with a US3 as it ended up being too loose.

Yarn: I had been sitting on this yarn since February!

I used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in Pilsen and it was just lovely to work with on my Thuja's!

The yarn is soft and glides along. I loved all my favorite colors swirling together of red, purple and chocolate. It was really a pleasure to knit with it and my first time with Lorna's Laces!

I do have more LL in my stash and look forward to working with the different weights soon.

Cost: $18 for one hank

I guess that is like $9 per sock...wow

I did have plenty left over since I didn't make full length socks and plan to use it for baby items/odds & ends

What I learned: I did use the Magic CO this time, rather than the Turkish CO

I have used the Magic CO before on another project (twice on my bucket hats), and I really liked it as a provisional CO substitute.

.....mmmmh the difference to me is that the Turkish CO is easily brought to anyone's remembrance, where I think the Magic CO takes a tad bit more maneuvering and a quick refresher if you don't use it often.

Other than that they are pretty much the same IMO!!

One of my main goals for this pair of socks was to learn how to do a heel flap toe-up

and I was able to do that!! :oD

I used Zhenya's Mash-up Recipe pattern for the heel. I liked the fact you could plug in numbers to match the kind of socks you are making, but I must confess having to pick up stitches for a toe-up sock is not something I want to do! Haha! Call me a knitting bum! ;op

I will say I had a "designer element" on my second heel turn with having some of my pick-up stitches on the outside (told you I didn't like it!), but the multitude of the yarn colors camouflages it so it is cool! Besides they are just house socks ;o)

But I am so glad I tried this alternative to heel flaps, as I plan to try out more.

The other technique I learned towards the end of this project was the Stretchy Bind Off that Babbling Brook (Stacey) put me onto! Thanks so much!!

I really liked it and I do believe it has a nice give to it!

I definitely think my ankles are too loosebut that is probably because of the needle size I selected. I believe if I wasn't so concerned about having a tight BO it would have been just fine on a size 3.

Modifications: Not much as it was a simple sock, other than that the pattern was written for top/down rather than toe-up.

And I also changed up the heel with an eye of partridge.

Verdict: Definitely a good "starter" pattern and the yarn was a good match as it was thick and variegated to hide things while I am still learning ;op

I enjoyed knitting these socks. And I am ready for more in August!

Heeeeeeeeeeeey Now!

Thought I would take a quick mid-day break and share somethings with ya!

~ As you all know there are a ton of fall previews and surprises flying around.
Weeeeeell I picked up the fall 08 Knitscene 'special issue' and was flipping thru my mag and discovered on the very last page Ms. Brown Berry being featured in the Knitspotting!
I was like HEY!!! I know her!!!....well at least "e-know" her! Haha! :oD
Check her out....I likes her!

~ Then I came across these AWESOME SOCKS last night and was blown away! Lucy is one Bad Mam-a-jama!!
I love how she added ribbing in that pattern.

My Traveling Visitor

Guess who came by to visit CrimsonPurl last weekend!! :o) That's right! Traveling Teddy!

Before I could catch my breathe in the Queen City, I was immediately whisked away for a road trip to Raleigh, NC!

I got to meet a little person who was intrigued by me

And luckily she wasn't that infatuated with me as I was not kidnapped! ;o)

My new North Carolina friends took me to a church car wash

I almost got wet! But it would have felt Oh So Good as it was HAWT outside!

Someone then dragged me to this place where I was told there is fiber and such there I guess??

Shuttles, Needles, & Hooks is the LYS in Cary that is has been in the community for about 20 years in a house
CrimsonPurl mentioned she would come back with more details about the LYS ;o)

But I took a fancy to this wheel and enjoyed this spinning thing

It was so much fun!! But did I mention it was HAWT?!? Even inside so we had to go!

The rest of the trip was a blur as my caretaker kept hiding me in this basket

...pfft! Some trip!

CrimsonPurl even put me to work right before I was shipped off to my next destination!

There has to be some 'bear work labor protection law' out there!! But at least I enjoyed knitting on the socks!
